15 GT3 with high copper in oil
 

After 2 track events over 5 days my local P car Indy noticed a lot of copper in the oil. I spoke to my local dealer and they need to do their own sample and told me to go to my next event which is tomorrow at lime rock.

I don’t have an actual cooper count but Sam from Elite knows his stuff. I will view the sample later today.

Only copper parts are the main bearing and rod bearings correct?

My car has the original engine.

Any info would be appreciated.

"understanding Your Report " states for engines , Copper: Bearings, Bushings, Thrust Washers, Oil Cooler, Clutches, and oil additive in some gasoline motor oils.

What does this mean? Does your indy have X-ray vision?? Did he run a UOA??? If he ran an UOA, what's the ppm????

If it’s really bad, you can sometimes see fragments on the filter paper

Well if he could see copper particles in the filter I would think the ppm would be off the charts. I'm doing my first oil change next week and a sample is going straight to blackstone.

That's a very good plan on your part, but, keep in mind it's only one test. Keep doing them. After about 4 UOAs you'll start to see a trend-line. What you are looking for is the wear metals (Alum., Iron, and CU) to "freeze" and neither up or down (as your OCI and use stays the same). Then have reached oil nirvana.:)

This plus he can see it in the sample. Going there now. No ppm report. By sight.
