Centre Lock Ring Query

Centre Lock Ring Query
Hi all,
I've not long had my 991 GT3 (Oct 18) and decided today that I would get the car up on the ramp and get the wheels off it and clean up the centrelocks and regressed with the TA etc.
Upon taking one of the centre locks off a split ring about 3" in diameter fell out which upon look at schematics looks like it's just supposed to sit against the centrelock and wheel. I've cleaned that up and reinstalled the wheel and torqued up to 600nm. I've then taken the other rear wheel off and noted that there is no split ring???
So given its on the schematic I've s couple of questions....how critical is this ring? Can it be bought as a spare and should they be on every wheel? I've not tackled the fronts yet but if there's one missing there might be more. I'm wondering if when the detailer had it they have come out and he's dropped one.
Any advice would be really appreciated.
Cheers
Steve

The centre lock system is made of three (maybe four?) individual pieces that are sort of stuck together with the paste and friction/force. Sometimes they come apart when removing the nut (as with your first wheel) and sometimes they don't (as with the other one). In my experience, they usually do not come apart but it is advised (at least on Rennlist and maybe in the owner's manual) that they are taken apart and cleaned/re-pasted every few times the nut is removed.
My suspicion is that the piece was not missing but that the nut system just did not fall apart on the second one like it did on the first one.
Sounds like it went back together OK so shouldn't be an issue.

Thanks.....all sorted. It was the c clip that's supposed to be 'in' the centrelock that had come out and then not been refitted properly. Have now fully stripped, cleaned and reassembled the rear locks. All torqued back up to 600nm.
Bit of a messy activity!

Is it possible to just buy new cones (the part that mates to the wheel surface) for the centerlock bolt or is it necessary to buy the whole $255 centerlock bolt assembly when it's time to refresh?
