Big problem for mechanics not owners.

Depends. Brands like Ferrari go out of their way to make their engine bays look gorgeous. In that case I would want to see the engine!
however, most brands don’t do anything special. In that case I don’t care

I donno. I am still bothered by it. I think it constitutes a “dumbing down” of the car. Even though the access there would be very narrow, and not very useful for doing much in the way of maintenance, it still offends me in some small way that Porsche would add this cover and instead present us only with neatly, almost theatrically placed oil and water caps.
I remember being shown my first .1RS. The SA bragged how the front logo was just a sticker to save weight. So……how is this cover plate justified on any performance basis? Car would be lighter and cooling better without it. The fans could just as easily be mounted on the hatch.
The naked motor is not much to look at. That’s OK, just don’t give me any disingenuous add-ons.

Further proof that nothing is sacred, and you accept as the norm whatever is current. My father and his generation opened the hood and expected to not just see the engine, but fix it as well. I was taught “air, spark, fuel” along with how to use a fork. Times they are a changin’
