^ Those were truly fun cars on a back road…and I sometimes think about getting a 987.1 or 987.2 Boxster S 6MT. Did the Tail of the Dragon in a 2007 Boxster S and it was just brilliant.

Hehe. I accidentally ended up with leather dash. I was going to to remove it for the rubber, but car build locked early due to European Delivery date set.

I know we're in the minority, but I really enjoyed my rubber dash in a prior 991.

Got it wrong in my first 991.2, and realized that I'm not a leather dash person. I like them, and the way they look as well as the hand crafting, but I like that Carrera 3.2/Vanagon/240 DL vibe too much. I was dumb, however, and ordered PTS. Funny thing was…no fighting, no tears, no waking up in the night wondering if I could get an allocation. My dark green Vanagon showed up, and all was well.

In my ideal world, there would be a "Crazy Engine" box hidden somewhere in the configurator that would alter everything under a four-seat Carrera/S/T/GTS to GT3 mechanicals. No badges, no waiting, no nonsense. Then I'd have to face the tricky question of 3.0 vs 4.0, which is trickier than many would imagine. Both so good, for very different reasons.

It may be time to ask Ruf what they can do about your idea.
I'm a huge fan of the original CTR because it was really close to a regular 3,2, from the exterior.

Here is the closest available, I think:

Thanks, Pete, for your lively and authentic description of the Speedster - almost feels as if I had been there myself..;-).

Question: In my GT3T, my gear shifter trembles back and forth a bit in 4th gear. In all other gears, the shifter stays immobile in its place. I have read a few similar statements from other 991.2 GT3 (MT) drivers. According to my Porsche dealer, this is not a bug, but a feature. If so, the Speedster should also have this. Did you notice this?

Best

^ You are welcome, and right on.

Good question, but I'm afraid this is precisely the kind of thing you can miss on a one-day test with a car—particularly when you are not really "cruising" at any point in the day. There were very few "transit stages" on this trip, which is great for impressions on how the car is on the roads it was made for (and we dream of) but less useful for the "mundane" (but important) kinds of things like the one you mention. LOL at the dealer calling an NVH issue a "feature," but if the tremble isn't making noise and you've noted it in the service records while the car is under warranty—and others are noticing it too—I wouldn't worry about it. I've had a lot of manual cars over the years, and a bit of tremble in the shift lever is nothing new to me. I've seen some dance a jig when letting on and off the throttle, and a bit of tremble may be a last vestige of connection to gazillions of controlled explosions just aft. Enjoy it while you can, my friend, and if in SF hit me up for a ride with an old 901 gearbox...its shifter does all sorts of things, but mainly controls a little, loud flat six that never fails to make me smile.

[QUOTE=stout;15844477]We gotta get LK out to the west coast for a drive, if he's game...

Are you referring to me? LK 964 Speedster residing at South Bay for now. Heading to Colorado at some point. It needs a top. After almost 26 years I noticed at Luft it's a bit thread bare in spots. Classic doesn't have it. Any suggestions for good fabrication shop are welcome. Thank you.

^ Yup. Our time together at Luft was way too short.

There are some good people when it comes to Porsche tops in CO, as you likely well know. You might give Dave Brown a call...while he is a Targa top specialist, he probably knows the "infrastructure" for soft-tops in CO better than most: https://www.yelp.com/biz/porsche-tar...-brown-boulder

Going a bit off topic, but there is a set of LTS brown natural leather 991 cabrio 18 way seats front and rear seats on eBay for $7800 with a bunch of other associated parts (door panels side panels, console etc.). They look really nice and are even more special insofar as they have the turbo only leather bases. So you get the whole set for less than the option to change leather on the front seats from Porsche. Don’t get me wrong, I like my LWB but the stock leather is just not great. Anyway, very tempting and would get close to stout’s Carrera with Gt3 mechanicals idea.

My Touring does the same thing, along with many others (if not all) who’ve observed the “4th gear jig.” No noise, just a little movement when accelerating and decelerating in this particular gear. Not concerned.

Hi,

if someone has an us, canada or eu allocation, please let me know. At my dealership it was only one, someone waiting for 2 years got it. Would be fantastic if this Forum could help true enthusiasts.

many thanks in advance!

It was possible to "drive it quiet" if you knew how to play it, and like a Cup car on the north coast. Have less experience with their post-997 stuff, but if they made that setup, I'd be tempted to do whatever it is they're doing for the 991 GT cars.
OT from Speedster but more on the 997 with that setup... model? 3.6? 3.8? 3.9/4.1? Which of their exhaust setups?

Several I've driven were like that, all with the 3.9. Suspect a fair bit of the magic is an exhaust changeup away from a 3.6 or 3.8. The 4.1 sounded great, too, and added more torque than you'd expect from 200cc, but I think I still prefer the 3.9. I think.
