991.1 Gt3RS engine vs 991.2 GT3RS engine
OK, so I have spent the better part of the last 2 weeks trying to find specific (read: not internet folk lore) information regarding the exact differences between the 4.0 powerplant in the 991.1 GT3RS compared to the 991.2 GT3RS. Other than the hydraulic lifters, my guess is that this is a completely different power plant, similar only in overall displacement and number of cylinders. Can anyone provide me some real concrete facts comparing these two power plants? My research suggests that even the internal engine model designation is different.
(disclosure: I am considering a 991.1 GT3RS purchase, but wondering if it's simply better to go for the "best of breed" and only look at the gen 2 model. I'm not a flipper or no-drive collector. I plan to use this car and hold it long term.)

Engine block is the same construction but has a coating in the new engine version. Different oiling approach at the crankshaft. Slightly modified intake manifold. Replaced hydraulic clearance adjusters by shims.
Its not entire new but they changed few things.

the new ones feels far better and the best thing is the oil heats up in 1 mile.
I would rather a 991.2 GT3 than a 991.1 RS just for the engine.
Also PASM is better and steering feel is better in the .2 cars and if you like apple car play and heated seats again the gen 2 car has both.

I had my .1 RS and .2 RS overlapped for a little while. My first impressions were wow this is quite a different motor in sound and operation. After 1k miles I also would prefer a .2 GT3 over a .1RS just for the motor alone. The motor in the .2 RS (and GT3) is quite amazing. As a side note, it seems everyday there are more and more .1 RS's now with the same cam scoring issues that the .1 GT3 had. Most likely Porsche didn't have time for the .1RS to make the full oiling changes and just did the best they could to mitigate things. Also remember the first press videos showed the .1RS revving to 9k. That was later moved down to 8800, which is only allowed in the first few gears I believe.

This sums it up at s high level
I was surprised when I read the 991.1 engines didn't have a cross drilled crank
It's all small stuff..but as stated above the 991.1 RS still has the same components that haunt the non RS gen 1 cars..only difference is nobody has sued Porsche to extend the warranty
