Illuminated Door Sills

Vehicle power supplied from a ribbon cable snaking out from the base of the door opening, around where the trunk opener switchgear sits.

I recently had a new Audi service loaner and the door (not the sill) bottom light now illuminates letters to form the brand name at your feet.
Not my cup of tea but uses existing door power and illuminates wording in the same area,
perhaps you could customize the wording?.

I am in the same position now as I have a car I want to add the sills to now. I will make a couple of calls and check around.

I had a previous 911 retro-fitted for the illuminated door sills and the tech told me that the car already had the necessary wires and that he just plugged into them.

I did a few Euro deliveries in the 80's and each wire loom was built for each car. It was interesting watching them layout the wiring. I believe they found that a universal wire loom was more cost effective. Reduced inventory costs, parts and labor.

I might be wrong, but I seem to remember having seen for my car somewhere on a build sheet or similar something along the lines of "preparation for illuminated sills" (at zero cost - you pay for the sills) or something along those lines. That would indicate unique looms needed. Maybe it was in the SA:s build system while we were speccing the car...

Did a retrofit on both .1 and .2 using the illuminated door sills kit that was bought through Suncoast that included a short wiring loom section.
It was definitely plug and play, and connected up to the main wiring loom.
The time intensive part comes in running the short wiring loom properly throughout the car + cleanly replacing the existing sills.

I believe there were two options at purchase: illuminated door sills, and prep for illuminated door sills. The latter is obviously just the extra loom to the midpoint of the door.
Beware that the sills, even the factory originals, have a very short lifespan. My .1 GT3 has illuminated carbon sills that are 4 years old and only flicker intermittently, due to gradual failure of the electroluminescent panel and ribbon cable from water ingress. The only option is to replace them at about £600 for the pair plus labour, or just put up with them being nice looking carbon sills with a white logo.
