I may be going to GT3! Have I gone mad??
Hello fellow bright and feisty GT3 owners, after about a year in my awesome 991.2 TT I kinda miss the appeal of the high-revver. I recently took out a 2014 GT3 that had about 37000 miles on the clock and was simply amazed by the 3.8 liter engine and how it just lights up (no pun intended) over 6000 rpm. I had a grin on my face the entire time.
However, I'm looking at purchasing a very lightly used 2018 GT3 - carrara white metallic/PCCB - trying to work a deal but what I find hilarious is:
- You guys don't drive these cars! Well, some of you don't. I go on Autotrader and search 2015's and most have about < 15,000 miles on them! Still going for about $130k or thereabouts.
Then you search on 2018 GT3's and they are all over the map! New ones with $20k add-ons over MSRP, and if they are PTS they are gouged up over $200k. What in God's name have you gone mad?? Have I gone mad??
However, if the 2018 GT3 is lighly used <1000 miles they tend to bring the price down to ~ MSRP. I may try and squeak a few more $k out of these guys. It's like diamonds from the proverbial Porsche kiester.
Before I got into the TT I asked about the GT3. It was always "we have no allocations, minion". And if you buy new we're going to gouge you +$20k-30k over MSRP. I was put off by this and grabbed my barf bag.
Well, I may just be paying near MSRP for the white metallic one. But only if the 4.0 liter impresses me tomorrow.
Time will tell. Have I gone mad??

Welcome. Not mad. Take the red pill: 991.2 GT3. You’ll never regret it. Preferably 6 speed.

They always said the GTS was a "GT3-light", in 991.1 form. I'm disagreeing with this. The 3.8 GT3 I drove had ENTIRELY a different personality- the rev capability was just amazing to me. It's a shame I've waited long to observe this for myself.
Before anyone gets too excited, yes the GTS is a great car- but a GT3 is different. Just...different.
Need to take my chill pills for the day.

The .1 3.8 GT3 is an amazing car at a really competitive price. You can do a lot worse!

Yep, I had a NA GTS 3.8 with the 7600 rpm redline- 430 hp- but the GT3 3.8 was just in a different league- not just the high revs but the steering, the firmness of the suspension, the ride height, all of it. Not to mention that honking wing in back.

The difference b/w the .1 and .2 is noticeable but not that significant. Biggest things IMO - better low end torque, drastically improved PCM and backup camera make it more enjoyable on the road. They are both amazing on the track.

I see "price" mentioned several times in this thread and think that is the #1 priority of this buyer, hence he should be encouraged to look at 991.1 GT3s as a great value.
...is this now a value thread?
