GT3 Manual over-rev question.

GT3 Manual over-rev question.
Quick question.
I punched the pedal in 1st gear but thought I was in 2nd gear like as dumbass. The RPM shot to 9k and it bounced from 8.8 to 9k a few times for about 0.5 seconds.
Is there a rev limit protector in the GT3 that protects the engine--
or prevents the car from registering an over-rev in that situation?
also, what is the highest speed it can go in 2nd gear theoretically?
I appreciate the help, thanks

It might get a range 1 or 2 overrev, but the rev limiter keeps it from going much beyond 9k absent an inadvertent downshift.
2nd gear maxes out high 70s is memory serves me.

You cannot hurt the engine with the throttle. Maybe your ears though. And why did you hold it so long as to have time to watch the tach bounce around?
The rev limiter will not let the engine rev past its limit, only a money shift can do that.

+1 on no harm, no foul and don't worry about it. Over-revs that matter are "money shift" which is downshifting in to too low a gear and releasing clutch - aka "mechanical over-rev" and have nothing to do with throttle.

Thanks guys, I appreciated it...
Also I was on the highway (80ish mph) and meant to shift to 4th gear but put it in 2nd. I didn't release the clutch and the tach only went to around 7k, nowhere near 9k.
Im assuming I'm ok with that one as well?
Sorry for the rookie questions guys.

Wanna see (hear) a money shift? Here is my money shift from last spring in my Honda race car vs. some Cayman GTB1 cars at Tremblant. We were having problems with the shifter and I got a lovely 11,000rpm zing that destroyed the motor.
Skip to 4:55 to see the shift...or watch the start of the race and enjoy!
(2008 Civic coupe K20 NA motor with ~235hp)

You dont know enough about manual transmission cars yet you drive a $180,000 9000 rpm red line track car.

Three Wheelin'
81 mph according to Road and Track. I looked it up, because....my better half the other day stated that the manual trans wasn't so bad to deal with...."that engine has quite the range, I just left it in second...."
"With 4.0 liters at the ready, the GT3 pulls happily from low revs, but the real joy is in keeping it above 5500 rpm where important stuff happens. The manual does have tall gearing in its first two ratios (second is good for 81 mph),..."

Do you understand the difference between the 2 scenarios? A mechanical over rev is dangerous because the electronic rev limiter which cuts fuel cannot stop the engine from over rerevving when the transmission/gear is causing it spin too fast. Throttle is not dangerous. Money shifting is.

RL can really suck. Everyone bitches and complains about the value threads but here a guy asks for some advice/comfort and gets criticized for not knowing enough about MT to warrant his owning the car. Nonsense. If people had treated me this way when I got in to racing I never would have learned nor stuck with it. We should all want more people joining our sport, hobby, passion. This isn't the way to encourage it.

Some advice to RSFTF, the digital gear indicator within the tach will display what gear you're in the moment you're in it, not even fully engaged, which is awesome. In other words, all it takes is a quick glance before you release the clutch. This would've prevented your accidental 2nd gear downshift.
I agree that this needs to be a positive platform, but at the same time I also understand 3 Pedals post, I would hope a 991.2 GT3 wouldn't be someones first manual car.
