Just a writer talking out of his posterior.

GT3 Touring or a 911R will be much more collectable than a carrera T.

He makes some good points about why the Carrera T is a cool/fun car but not on point for "collectability". Collectability is a niche part of the Porsche world. Seems to me that for the recent cars (like RS 4.0 forward) collectability is tied to limited production/numbered cars - RS 4.0, 991R, Club Coupes, anniversary editions, etc. Obviously the supercars have their very special place in the mix. Air cooled too.

I think they only produced 904 carrera T’s (in the US)
so if collectibility is tied to limited production... is he correct?

Having driven both the assertion that anyone would take a Carrera T over a 991.2 GT3 for any reason beyond availability or price or absolutely needing backseats is laughable.

- deAvacado - r u saying “nobody would ever want a T unless they could not afford or get an allocation for a GT3” - I dont think that is true. Its certainly not true for me. But I guess I’m “laughable”

I think the article makes some great points.
No one knows what will be collectible - none of us knew our 993 Turbos would double in value back in 1998.

The Carrera T is a really fun car and maybe dollar for dollar more fun than the GT3... but with money being equal, there's really no contest.

I agree that they are not cars to compare.
its not apples to apples. Different animals.

Just thought it was an interesting article and POV around “collectability”

Many people say that the Carrera T was initially intended to be named "Clubsport" and designed to emulate that model's design brief from 1988 and 1989 model years, but the trademark is now owned by another marque.

How many of those came to the US? Just 28 (I've driven 3 of those). Those are collectible due to rarity. Not sure if the T will be similarly collectible (I wouldn't buy one for any reason other than to daily drive it and then the collectibility would be gone)...

Not what I meant - numbered/limited production rather than just low number of units produced. Two different things.

Good article and again VERY speculative, but it should be more collectible (or at least harder to find in the future) than a 991.1 and 991.2 GT3 that was mass produced, relatively speaking in the Porsche world..........Carrera T was very low in production and sales.......461 in 2018 in the US market.........2018 GT3 alone was 5 times that number......the article makes some good points......those of us that will be around will see

the article was comparing the T to GT3 in terms if “collectability”

i agree with you that numbered cars are more collectible.

the T is low production- not numbered

is the GT3 a numbered car?

think I read 3,000 GT3’s produced in 18/19? Only 650ish GT3 Touring. Are they numbered? If so - Id say the GT3 is hands down more “collectible”

if neither the T or GT3 are numberd - who knows.

i think the 997.2 GT3 may prove to be the most collectible GT3 (hydraulic steering, limited production (900 in US?)

I like the T, almost ordered one as a track stripper with T interior upgrade, LWBS, and RWS only but was late to the party. So, I drove a GT3 and I was able to buy a stripper GT3T at MSRP that a guy walked. I would gladly own a T and drive the heck out of it but many of the dealer ordered cars were optioned by morons, IMHO - trust me, I searched. Collectability is a numbers driven game, but one of the biggest numbers is actual performance and driving experience (track chops, HP, etc.). So, if we talk production numbers I don't think you can leave out performance numbers/drive experience when discussing collectability.
