2019 PTS GT3 Euro Delivery...done!
#76
Thanks for taking me along the journey! We were planning ED this year but couldn't get a hold of a PTS allocation... I will definitely be bookmarking this page for my future ED trip.

Unlike 6MT vs PDK, ED seems to be universally recommended. This isn't our first trip to Europe and I've don't the whole planes, trains, and automobile thing from Ireland to Hungary, but there's something special about taking delivery at Werk 1 and exploring B roads in Italy and France. Truly a visceral experience and not one to be missed!

Yes...the XL. As expected, it was a perfect fit, with room on the sides for car stuff, rags, shoes, etc. The best part was being able to put a garment bag over the top and still comfortably close the frunk hood.

Absolutely! There's something visceral about the delivery experience that will never be replicated from a dealer. It isn't just handing over the keys and going over the radio controls, but more about being there and seeing the production line, the history, the buildings, and the people who assembled your car.

Fantastic thread, thanks for sharing all the details and tips. I've always wanted to do ED and this has sealed it for me...now which car to choose for ED....decisions.

It's at the dealer, 10 weeks exactly from the day we dropped it off in Nice! They're doing the prep (clear markers, maps, alignment check after settling, and an oil change) and I'll swing by and pick it up tomorrow! This is almost as exciting as the first delivery in Zuffenhausen!

Looks like a fantastic ED experience! Thank you for sharing.
I have previously done the BMW ED delivery and looking forward to picking up my next Porsche in Bavaria! Your thread only makes that hunger more! :-)

Don't forget Leipzig
Don't know whether anyone else mentioned it, but taking ED in Leipzig also gives you about 45 minutes of track time in the same car you're picking up (with a Porsche pro driver in the right seat). We've done it twice and are looking forward to doing it with the new GT4 next summer. Factory tour isn't as cool as Zuff, but the rest is great. And it's farther away from Italy, France, etc. so there's more time on new unrestricted Autobahns (by and large, the Autobahns in East Germany seem to be in better shape).

Plan the time of year well! Much of it was out of our control, but the window we had allowed us to pick it up before the tourist season and with reasonably good weather. There's nothing worse than waiting in Disney-like lines for places you want to visit. We tried staying off the beaten path, with the exception of Milan and Monaco.
That's a great point. If the weather permitted it and we took delivery in Leipzig, we would have visited Berlin, Dresden, Prague, and then the passes in Austria and Italy.

Did some drive in the Black Forest to complete the break in then headed to the Ring & Spa for track days. Dropped car off at Frankfurt and headed home. It was perfect!
