poor or efficient

love the diversity of MT / PDK, road / track focus, soft / hard top, mid / rear engined, 2 wheel steer / 4 wheel steer. Plenty to keep one occupied over 10 years. There is no substitute.

Now if you could only keep one, which one would it be?

If you can only have one, it has to be an all around type car. Probably a 911R for me.

For the next 10 years, 2 Porsches I would take as true drivers cars, without the attention, worry about value, miles, dings on the door, or a scratched paint.

1. 964 RS America.
IMO, one of the last of the true classic Porsches.

2. My .2 manual GT3 and/or GT3 Touring
Value, limited editions, and production numbers aside, one of the best modern Porsches one can enjoy driving.

There are many Porsches I think I lust more for, like the 997 RS 4.0 and CGT. But I know I wouldn’t really enjoy the full potential of those cars in the next 10 years, even if budget were not an issue.

2 dream Porsche race cars would love to have:
917
919 Hybrid Evo

PS: I think for most buyers of collectible cars like the CGT, 997RS 4.0, and 991R, the value and collectibility of these cars will hurt the owning and driving experience. After all, that value thing will still corrupt the mind, especially for people who have wealth, made wealth, and care for their wealth. Whoever says otherwise, is in denial.

If I had to choose between my PTS GT3T weekend fun car and my daily driver 991.1 GTS cab, wow, that's a tough call. To be discussed by me in a separate thread soon, once I get seat time behind the wheel of my GT3T. The car is still in OC with Moe!

I have been thinking about CGT and 4.0 RS for a while just before I fall asleep. Want one of them.

Mooty, I know you have both. Can you elaborate a little why it’s such a simple decision for you compared to the 4.0 RS? Never driven a CGT myself.

ps: have driven a 4.0rs. But it’s not like they got too many of those CGTs waiting for s test drive

i'm surprised unotaz actually asked that question. In terms of driving experience it's not even close, the cgt flattens the 4.0. now it does come with downsides to be fair (the thing is bloody wide, attracts too much attention, parts and maintenance is probably on the same magnitude as much more than the 4.0 as the driving experience is better!) but I can't think of anyone I know who has driven both cars that doesn't think the same.

Mentally, I have to put a budget number in it to quantify the car options available. So let’s say $1 million:
- Black CGT
- My GT3T

I will try and chime in on CGT...owned one for a year and have had plenty of 911 variants for 20 plus years.

1) CGT cold start is ear candy x 1000. Also only driving issue is 1-2 is tricky when car is cold.

2) The CGT was more difficult to drive 5-10 years ago. New tire tech has made it somewhat easier to tame.

3) Carbon tub, stick, V10 equals sublime driving experiences not achievable in any 911(sorry just my humble opinion)

4) I also think long term the CGT has alot of upside. That said they made 1200ish.

5) Only negative is $$$ for maintenance...but if you can afford $500k plus for CGT you can afford proper annual maintenance.

It's not as obvious for me. 7-4.0 is right at the edge of practical vs absurd. CGT is an absurd luxury in life to own imo. Completely impractical. If i throw "practicality" and/or some kind of diversity-of-use, the 4.0 wins. If you have enough money to throw at it, the CGT is no-brainer winner. If i wanna pull the plug tomorrow, slow down and simplify, it's 4.0. It IS just a 911.

For now it's both. And after this thread I'm gonna really try to convince myself to pair back to one or both of those and rid myself of everything else except a revolving new shiny, warrantied track toy. It might take some couch time with a shrink first but I'd like to get there.

I went through a similar simplification exercise. No shrink required so far, but took time to refine.

Ferrari street-registered, period race car - 5 years of ownership and no urge to sell.

911 daily driver - My designated revolving one...and evolving as my functional needs/wants change. Still happy with current 911 after a couple of years (which is right at my average ownership tenure).

Porsche period/historic race car - sold one and building budget for next.
