Don't look now but Porsche is as expensive as Ferrari

We (myself included) get caught up in the marketing hysteria that occurs with every Porsche GT or special that comes along. It’s we who drive the prices up by our desire to “get on the list” or “get an allocation” for that next “best Porsche ever” that we have forgotten one very basic element. The base 911.
if you went to Porsche dealer and just purchased a base 911 in one of the four standard colors with the standard manual gearbox no options, you would have an incredible sports car with standard options and performance unheard of just a few short years ago. And the price, about half what most are paying for GT3’s, or a third of a GT3rs. It’s performance is still beyond what most of us would ever come close to using in our daily lives.
Just saying

To be fair my 911s have never been my DD, and I average no more than 4K miles a year on them. They are garage kept and I always had them serviced at Porsche dealers.

One of the reasons I enjoy this forum though, is that I've also met lots of amazing salt of the earth people on here who live in the moment and don't get caught up in that.
But back to the topic....yes, in the 300K category there are many many options that provide a different but equally amazing driving experience.

Having owned many Porsches gt cars over the years it is clear a lot of change is happening. The biggest is prices have really gone up to which it makes other cars start looking attractive that have more technology . It seems that with production increasing it has slowed or stopped the "who do I have to know to get a GT car at msrp" mess. I daily drive a 991 GTS and enjoy it. I have moved on however in the GT car world to McLaren as I got tired of the same old design over and over each year with subtle changes and price increases.
The heritage in which the Porsche brand has been built on is gone. I find it interesting when threads are started slamming other brands reliability and depreciation when Porsche's record isn't all that good. Yes depreciation wise the GT cars have been very good but it looks like that is all changing with inventories skyrocketing as the dollar is chased. We will have to see what the future holds.

If people here are worried about value/depreciation, stay away from the Italian stuff - at least new for sure. Good news is no ADM!

As a many decade owner of 911s, I can verify your perspective. For those who track their cars on a regular basis, a GT3 is a great choice, but for those like myself who rarely attend DE events, a base 911 more than meets my needs. Since Porsche makes a large number of base 911s, almost anyone can buy them for substantially below MSRP, and if you don't need a lot of options, it's still possible to get a MT 911 for under $100K. In my case I typically keep my cars for at least six years, and then sell privately. When you spread the purchase price over 6+ years and sell privately, a 911 is far from an expensive car. As far as quality is concerned, mine have been near perfect. Some of that was luck since I bought a 993 in 1995 and missed the problematic 996 and the RMS debacle. Moreover, Porsche stands by their cars. Over the years I have had three goodwill repairs, well after warranty expiration.

I would be more excited to own a 488 pista spider than a new speedster. Would love to have either, but if i were cross shopping and they were priced the same, I’d be pulled towards the Ferrari.

As someone who currently owns 2 air cooled 911s and a 991.1 GT3, and a previous owner of ‘69 911E and 2018 Carrera S, I can say that there is something categorically different about owning one of the GT cars. It’s a whole other thing than the current base turbo’ed cars. The air cooled cars are super exciting to drive fast, in their own ways. The GT cars are just as, or more exciting, on a good road and on the track. But the current non-GT cars are, by contrast, muted and modernized and, while super capable, a little uninspiring.

Sorry don't agree...stopped buying Ferraris years ago when Ferrari Beverly Hills told me I needed to purchase an FF to get a 458 speciale.
That was after I had purchased 2 355 spiders, 360 coupe, a 430 scud, and a 599GTB. I guess they were mad I purchased a 458 coupe from another dealer.
Also I paid 100k over for the scud plus one of my Ducatis.
Love F cars but I am done with my dealer forever. And I like James(GM) alot.

ferrari, Porsche, lambo- none are immune to some dealer games. Some great dealers out there but also some that can’t even spell customer service let alone perform it.

isnt it crazy we have to deal with this crap when spending hundreds of thousands. Economy is super good so everyone has money to spend and people are arrogant. The tide will turn. Have some cash set on the side for when it does.

If I wanted a nice sport sedan/coupe right now, and was going to get a turbo, I'd just get an M3 and save a lot a money vs turbo carrera or other turbo Porsche.
Only the GT cars are worth the Porsche premium these days. The others are as you said.....uninspiring.
