Sorry if this has been shared already, didn’t see it. Just saw the head 2 head of 3RS vs 600LT

Quite a surprise for the 600LT. Also I don’t trust any Italian car numbers unless it’s a customers car. Misrepresentation is something they’re just very comfortable with.
If you normalized the tires, the RS and 600LT should be neck and neck. The Cup 2 R’s are well ahead of the field. |
The Trofeo R that comes standard on the 600LT is basically a cut slick, it's within a whisker of the Cup R.

Tire size. Macca runs 225/285; RS 265/325. Macca needs more rubber.

3RS clearly is magic and still as it always has punches well above its weight eclipsing much more expensive kit.

I think the 2 R is considered to be quicker than the Trofeo R, but yeah the big difference is tire size. I understand McLaren keeping the tire sizes smaller in the 570S, it really does increase the fun factor in canyon driving, but come on, the 600LT is the track weapon, it needs to go up a couple of sizes at least.

To me it’s even more impressive that the GT3 with regular cup 2’s is faster.

There is a video with a Pro driver (Oliver Webb) taking the Aventador SVJ and GT2RS at Silverstone (and Shmee's Senna). The GT2RS put 2 secs over the Aventador, and supposedly the Aventador lapped the Ring faster. Then there is the Pista, the guys at Apex Nurburgring (they have a customer Pista, not a press car, and they can drive) have a nice review on that flop: good motor and nothing else. I took a Gallardo around Palm Beach Intl Raceway, the car was on fresh Michelin Super Sport, I could not break a lap under 1:32, and the car went limp on lap 6. My old 295Hp Cayman S on Bridgestone RE11 lapped in 1:32, and this is a track with a massive back straight. I have dozens of limp mode experiences in multiple cars, but the italians dominate. My favorite italian exotic car limp mode: exhaust overheated (I thought exhausts were supposed to run hot). |

I'd consider trading my 570S to the next Sport Series LT model once they up the tire sizes to at least 245/305. 225/285 stock is just too narrow for a $200K+ sports car. But that probably will never happen as McLaren will want to dumb down the performance of the Sport Series cars. So I'm considering modifying the wheel well liners to accommodate 265 front tires.
A 600LT w/ 265/325 on Cup R 2 could be just as fast as a GT2RS, see how the 600LT can almost hang with a 2RS in a straight line. |
