6 point harness installation help
I tried to fit the 6 point harness today but can't work out one thing. Is the bolt attachment point behind the round plastic cap? Shall I just pry that off? I tried to do so but stopped when it didn't come off easily.A bit strange that it's different from the other side which had a very obvious rubber cover for the attachment point. (is a RHD car since I live in the UK)

In the 996 the Lap belts for a 6-point harness attach to the seat base, and not to the body of the car. Not sure if the 991 buckets are the same......

You have to extract the whole rubber bung. It's a lil crazy: the bung appears to be GLUED to the tub in later builds and you have to scrape at the circumference it until it loosens. Pull out the loosened bung with a pair of pliers after that.

Which seats to you have? If you got GT3 specific belts the lap belts can use the attachment for the seat belt receptacle and on the other side it be the same mount as the 3pt belt which may be on the seat (buckets) or body (sofa seats). You may need a special shoulder washer depending the seats.

When you say rubber bung, is that the dark red circle here?
https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...3ce6200bb3.png I've got the full carbon bucket seats. Will have a look once I'm home this evening to see if there is a place to bolt the harness to the seat. https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...1db645254e.png Schroth makes a specific 6 point harness for the GT3 bucket seat where the lap belt attach to the seat. Outboard side the belt connects between the seat and the 3 point belt and inboard side it connects between the receptacle and the seat. You're overthinking this. https://www.schrothracing.com/produc...e-harnessbelts |
Was basing my install attempt on this video:

Sure that's an option; I would have used the GT3 specific belt since it is designed to work with you seat. The GT3 specific will move with the seat so your lap belt tension is static regardless of how you position your seat.

Thanks, makes sense!

These are the belts. I tried to fit them to where the seat belts attach to the chair, works fine on the right side but not on the left side (the buckle). Will probably give up and let Porsche fit next time I drop it for service.

On the seat belt side, buy an extra tongue
from a junk yard (or Amazon) and route the belt through it (you'll need to fold the fabric and use hardware shown below). Then insert the tongue in the buckle like you would any OE seat belt.
Example of tongue: Example of hardware to adjust the belt length going to the tongue: https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...66bf81ef82.jpg https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...10dcfd89ea.jpg In the end, it will look similar to this. |
