No, the 911 R is setup for the road ... it falls behind the GT3 Touring (sharper suspension and handling) on the track for lap times

U misunderstand. I'm saying the original R was Porsche's attempt to make a hardcore lightweight track focused street car, hence the equivalent of today's RS.

Today's R is closer to a road-tuned touring car than the actual GT3touring.

Just spent 10 days in buddy’s Touring. Collected in Leipzig (I did GT3 track experience with Manual this time), then went “Touring” between Nürburg and Spa. Was excellent at both tracks in all kinds of crazy weather and also excellent on highway in heavy traffic or fast autobahn driving or tight mountain roads. Brilliant car!

Even made a cameo appearance (from 4:15) in the white Touring passing Shmee’s Ford GT while following a modified 964 (with 993 body), a friend of Kobalt and nice guy.

My friend Tim with Tim (Shmee) - very friendly (if a bit over enthusiastic at times)

Absolutely adore my Touring, I think the best and most engaging car I have ever driven. The only thing that I'd change is that it is very loud for long distance driving, hence not really ideal for a Touring car. I also have a 991.2 Clubsport and the Touring is a LOT louder. No idea why, must be something to do with the air intakes.

Interesting thread (the application aspect, not the nomenclature bit). I am continually amazed at how easy the Touring is to drive cross country and daily over some pretty average Atlanta roads. It’s a joy. I reckon it's nicely more comfortable than the GT4.

Above all, though, I smile every time I get behind the wheel. So nothing else really matters.
