Default 991.1 RS or 991.2 GT3 for Track Car

With prices virtually identical for the 991.1 GT3 RS and 991.2 GT3, I’m having a tough time deciding. I had a 991.1 GT3 and loved it but I’ve done that now. Between the greater long term value and increase down force, does it make sense to go with the RS? Why would I pick the 3? Car will mainly be for track and weekend driving and to just look at. Will the RS be faster?

I don’t think the RS is going to be faster. But it’s probably more fun for the looking at part of your plans.

I’ve owned both (currently .2 GT3). For track only I think I’d go with the RS for the aero. But if I was going to street drive much at all I’d go with the .2GT3. The improved electronics and the new motor are both great for around town use. The GT3 is quite capable on the track but the RS has that extra something that I think I’d want if I didn’t care about street use.

One has a pit speed limiter, come on it's obvious.

Seriously, the biggest difference is the motor. Track only the .1 RS is probably the way to go, then again if I wanted to win the DE every time I would get a C7 Z06 for half the money add cooling and aero and be done.

Any generation RS tops standard GT3. You’ll regret not buying an RS at some point.

good points for both. I tried moving to cheaper with an M2 and didn’t like it. C7 doesn't have a usable auto for the track. Dual clutch only for me. Ive seen some 570Ss in this price range as well.

Newer electronics are appealing but I don’t really ever plan on driving the car around town. I’ve already got a Range Rover and Tesla for that.

They are both so close.

Since you've done the GT3 already go for the RS

what i have seen on track, the 991.2 is a little bit quicker on most tracks.
But i have only driven on street so no real comparison on the limit. RS looks more special, 991.2 engine feels stronger. handling differences i am not sure, i think you have to drive both same day to get a decision my experience was 991.2 feels a bit tighter and stiffer. But RS should be stiffer...so my memories bad perhaps ;-) ??

One thing to consider is that repair costs for the RS in the event of a big off will be astronomically higher than the GT3 due to the carbon fiber fenders, hood, and other special bits.

Along those lines the GT4 is even cheaper (bumper is $1.5k vs $6k, for example).

I'm having a hard time talking myself out of an upgrade to a MT .2 from a GT4, especially with prices dropping to the low 50s. I really miss the mezger in my old car.

great to hear from you again Mech! It’s been a while. I agree, this is something I’m thinking about. Also trying to understand if I can fit cheaper track tires. I certainly won’t go out without track insurance. I’d love a new GT4 but it seems like it’d be another year before I could get one, even with ADM. thinking about a new C8 vette as well, but wondering if it’d be underwhelming like the C7. So many choices. Suggestions welcome! Still need to check out the McLaren.

50s? Are you implying you can find new GT3s in the 150s? If so please direct me that way. I’ll buy one now.

Used....watch the classifieds. There have been a couple .2 MTs now. Hell even .1 RS's are dropping into the 60s...but nowanna PDK.

got it. That’s why I started the thread. My biggest concern about the RS are the increase in track costs. I think the .1 RS will hold its value. I can’t see it dropping below the 150s in the next several years as the .1 3s are still in the 130s with low miles.
