European Speed Limiter for 2022

According to the Times, speed limiters will be on all new models from 2022 and all new cars from 2024. And, crucially, GPS WILL be used to automatically slow the car down. It will be possible to override it by pressing down the accelerator. This is slightly different from other reports I've read that said there would be a warning message but no automatic slow down.
Is this basically the end of the sports car? The Eurocrats have won. I feel sick.

The limiter is not the problem, the new cars will have a “black box” that records every time you go over the speed limit. So in case of an accident, the insurance companies can screw with you.

I believe that every new car sold here in the US also monitors various parameters for a certain period of time, such that speed; braking; steering angle; seat belt engagement, etc. can be accessed (by law enforcement?) after an event. Not sure if your insurance co could gain access also.

Your car key also stores a lot of information. Client once ignored overheat warnings on the way to a crucial meeting in a BMW. When the car caught fire he had to bail. Switched off ignition and took the key as the car burned. Dealer took the key and found that he ignored the warnings. No warranty and he is not a BMW driver today. When your car burns you must hope the fire fries the key you left in the ignition. Keep home/business keys separate.

if it becomes reality, the next month, someone will figure out a hack for it.
