Default Whew! What a drive!

And this is just the ride home after delivery, new gt3..

I’m in the breakin period so was just accelerating from 3000rpm to 4000rpm in 7th.. that alone was pretty thrilling. I noticed if I accelerate towards 4000 very fast that the pdk seems to disengage. The power drops off, theres a quick spike to 5000rpm (which makes me think it comes out of gear momentarily) and then rpms drop right down to about 3000. Is this a protection mechanism built in? The car has about 150 miles. If I accelerate towards 4000 more slowly then it doesnt do this.

Another question, xpel tracktape for the ride home (with cling wrap between the headlights and the tape) how long can I leave the tracktape on? I have a quick 1000 miles to drive and don’t have a week to leave the car somewhere for a full wrap.

Op not sure on your question on how long question , great idea on the cling wrap over headlight lens , bet your good for week run especially if not in hot temps.
Congrats on new wheels beauty !

That's not going to prevent a rock chip.

This stuff is really thick.. xpel trackwrap..

no takers on the 4000rpm phenomenon? The car drops out of gear momentarily (say 1 second) when accelerating fast from 3000 to 4000?
I'm thinking... I was in 7th gear in auto (no paddles) so maybe it's programmed to behave this way at low rpm in 7th (speeds were about 75mph to 90mph from 3000rpm to 4000rpm in 7th gear)
The manual says 7000rpm is ok for the gt3 breakin so I don't see why any limiter would kick in at 4000rpm.
Again, the car had 150 miles when this happened, twice out of about 10 tries.. fast acceleration from 3000 to 4000 in auto in 7th gear

I guess I will try paddles too..

Id give it sometime on the 4k rpm phenomenon. Get the break in miles that you want and take it from there. The engine isn’t in its comfort zone that low in my opinion. High revving engines have some quirks at low rpm’s. Just an opinion though.

I feel like the more I drive the car the better it gets... probably a combination of it being broken in and me learning how to drive it... this is a very peculiar machine.

There are several break in methods discussions in the forum. I tried to follow the one indicated in the operating manual... Not sure about the phenomenon you described, but the car behaves differently when it's not warmed up.

Your manual should have a note on not covering the gap between the bottom of the headlight and the bumper, it's for ventilation/cooling purposes

I find in my manual GT3 that the RPM's drop slower between shifts when cold. This only lasts a very short time as heat in the engine builds.

Thanks guys, I was fully up to temp.. an hour into a highway drive..

The dealer mechanic says 3000-4000 is a place where pdk doesn't know if it wants to upshift or downshift when it's not in sport mode.. a real scientific answer ..
I know that as soon as the power dropped I pulled off the gas so I probably got in the way of what it was doing too, it could have been a downshift I suppose as I was accelerating.

I guess that'll have to do for the time being.. I can see how 75mph at 3500 rpm in 7th gear is a confusing place for this transmission outside of sport mode :-)

The powerband is not very linear, so there is a torque surge around 3K...then a dip, and then it seems to liven up at 5K, and another step at 7K-9K.

If you look at a dyno sheet from an actual owner, several of them show a dip in torque at 4K that actually looks like a smiley face. I can't imagine not feeling that.

Also, it seems the throttle mapping is very aggressive from 2-4K, and less aggressive elsewhere. I have no proof of this however. I gleaned that from looking at that power graph in the dash. If you give the car 15% throttle at 3K, the power meter goes to full. No where else does it do that.

Just hit 1300 in my 19 GT3 today. Been breaking it in according to AP. I consider the car officially broken in now. Let her rip for the first time, and it felt really good!! Congrats on the new car. They just keep getting better!

same to you, I hit 500 miles today after a 300 mile drive from tampa to miami.. i have no quirks to report this time, spent most of the time in sport or sport with manual and the car did exactly what i wanted every time. A few times i downsshifted for some accelration and the car upshifted me back quickly but it was because i was not in manual.

one of the main reasons i bought a porsche is for pdk and i gotta say ... it did not disappoint. I switched into manual a few times and downshifted and upshifted through the gears just to move the rpm needle up and down and wow, no hesitation, no strange behavior, simply amazing, really impressive. I went up to 7000rpm by shifting down to 3rd a few times at 85ish but just 2 or 3 times. The manual say below 7000 for first 1000 miles but I wanna get it to 7000 a few times during the breakin.. somewhere I heard that the engine should see all performance ranges during breakin, don’t stay in a single rpm range etc...

i also noticed a rattle near the key but that turned out to be the keychain :-). What a solid build, really..

so thats that.. i cant wait to get a track day in!
