Default Radar

Has anyone installed the new ( or relatively new ) built in Escort Detector in their GT3 yet? The MAX CI 360....

I had the older model in my Turbo

I was looking at it and was wondering if there is anything to watch out for.

I'd watch out for the large percentage of cops that are using lasers instead of radars nowadays.

Thinking about the same detector. Very interested in what people think of it.

Laser *detector* as far as I know. Meaning it detects when you're about to get a ticket. LOL

Big difference between that and something like ALP which is actually a laser jammer unless I'm completely mistaken on what the CI does. The website says it has laser detection.

I’ve actually never had a radar detector before but I think I’m going to get one. Uniden is coming out with a new model the R7. That should go on sale in the next month or so. Looks to have a lot of features most of which I have no clue about so I need to start doing some research. It has arrows which I guess guys think is a big deal. Looks interesting.

OK, I stand corrected. Further research has some question the CI's ability to handle DragonEye lasers, but none of that seems to be definitive. Four head max which could limit coverage.
It does seem like users are generally pretty happy with this setup.

Personally I use the Max 360 with a 5-head ALP setup in my Raptor. I used to put ALP in my weekend toys (GT3 and RS) but just don't drive them enough around town where it was worth it to me. When I drive, I'm lost out in the mountains and rarely see other cars at all, let alone police.

I have a Max Ci 360 in my Ferrari, and used to have a K40 RL360. Also have 3 uniden windshield radar detectors.

I got the Max CI because of its stellar radar performance and excellent user experience for operating the system. It’s laser jamming capability is not as good as ALP, but has been good enough so far. My area does not have DragonEye laser guns however.

Personally, while I like the Escort system, I will be going with a Radenso RC-M plus ALP in the future. Escort seems to be a stagnant company that no longer innovates. Their remote radar range and UX is the best now, but I don’t see it lasting very long. Uniden is already beating them on windshield mounts while ALP trumps them for laser. Radenso is catching up on the radar side too.

With that said, if any installer recommends a K40 system to you, run. That system is complete trash.

Laser detection by itself seldom helps. Sporadically you get a reflection from another car rather than you, giving time to slow down. If your state allows for shifting, then its worth it, IMO.

I haven't seen laser in Chicagoland, I bet there's some using it, but it seems they prefer Ka band, including a new technology that uses very low energy waves that are difficult to detect by most countermeasures. Apparently uniden detects it after a firmware update for their top of the line detectors.

I’ll have to look into the Uniden R7. I currently use a windshield mounted R3 and it works for where I drive, with 9 out of 10 troopers using Ka-band radar guns. Had stealth installed V1 and LI jammers in my turbo S though...worked very well.

I've been fairly anti-radar detector for a while. But I'll admit I've been thinking about picking up the R7 when released just to add a little protection. (Recently got a ticket for 43 in a 30 that probably would have been prevented.)

ALP is the way to go with a radar add-on (no big preference as I have different radar systems in my cars).

This is my system which has been tested with a dragoneye and was 100% JTG to and from

I had the Max CI 360 put in my 2018 GT3 last year. Dealership installed and they had done the Escort 9500 in my previous car. Pricey unit and with installation it was $4500, ouch.

They struggled with installation and had to go back and forth with Escort and Porsche Tech support. Finally got it working, they thought, but I was getting way too many false positives (like 50 in a 30m minute drive). More troubleshooting and Escort sent a tech in to help, I think. Any how, finally think they had it fixed late last year. But, it was end of the season and I put it in storage.

So, my feedback is neutral to bad right now. My old 9500 was great and I would have got another one of those but they are no longer available. If you have a dealership involved I would recommend they talk to my dealer, Porsche of the Village in Cincinnati. They "ate" a lot of time on my install because of a lot of trial and error - no need to reinvent the wheel.

Will try and drive car next couple of weeks and post additional thoughts...
