ahh, i see what you mean - my dummy switches are wired "as" the kill switch. No need to open the cover, just hit the button next to the shifter and lights out.

All I use are:
1. V1
2. Waze
3. Common Sense
4. Have a good Lawyer ( to turn speeding tickets into parking tickets )
In the last 20 years I have received 1 speeding ticket ( lawyer changed that into a $300 parking ticket ) for doing 73 mph in a 50 mph zone. I was tired and hungry driving home from work at 10:30 pm. I had my V1 and Waze Turned Off

Subscribed. I have thought about buying a radar detector for 25 years. Apparently, I am the world's best procrastinator. After reading dozens and dozens of articles, talking to hundreds of people, it appears this topic is still subjective, further complicated by where you live, how you drive, what car you are driving, traffic conditions, etc.

Use an Escort 360C, EscortLive, Waze, and common sense.
Took Friday late morning-early afternoon off to do a 100 mile (round trip) run, I like to get coffee and cruise some b-roads. 3 different alerts on the b-roads. 1st one while cruising along a b-road between towns saw the Escort chirp some low level Ka band signals, I reduced speed, about 30 seconds later bam, high level alert and there he was, came around the corner opposite direction; likely some instant-on. Next was similiar, low level signals as I was approaching a small town, reduced speed and observed a gradual increase in Ka band strength; there he was in plain sight just pinging away. Last up, was coming into small town in the middle of no where, reduced speed before hitting the top of a hill that led into the town, laser alert, there he was behind some shrubs to break up his outline. A little common sense to slow down before the hills crest (think blind spot) leading into a populated area.
On the interstate heading back Waze showed where several police were hanging out and there were a few notices on the EscortLive app too. These apps are helpful in populated areas, obviously less so where there are fewer users of them.
Enjoy! But drive safely.

Laser is in use a lot near me, and jammers are illegal, so situation awareness is critical.

Yep, blind spot awareness is so critical. Anytime i am cresting a hill or approaching a blind spot i back off. Anytime i enter a small town i back off. Also just looking around. If you are in a populated area with a lot of cars it is always more likely to have cops. Get off the beaten path and you are far less likely to run into one. Harder for them to make money in the boonies. Even without a RD you can drastically reduce your chances of getting a ticket just by using common sense.

you can still run laser jammers if they are illegal. Just learn about the “JTK (Jam to Kill)” concept. Basically when you get bit by laser, you check your rear view mirror, slow down, then kill your jammers so the officer gets a speed reading (at a lower speed).
Even if if it’s not illegal, this is still best practice since it avoids pissing off cops. Texas actually made laser jammers illegal entirely due to a drivers recklessly jamming cops. Cops got pissed and successfully managed to petition a law to ban them.
Finally, even if you do get caught, it’s a minor fix it ticket like window tint too dark. Nothing bad.

Uniden R3 on the windshield
Apple CarPlay set to Waze on the PCM screen
Family member to a police officer if I really need to use that lifeline
Nothing better than a good windshield mount + carplay Waze
