Correct, it should be the same gearbox design and that's what I have been told by PAG as well. But the gearbox in my 911R and the other 911R I have driven are all notchier and tighter than the 6 speed unit on the .2 GT3. On my particular R, it has 3 times the mileage compared to my GT3. I can't explain it either

Now you are talking! Imagine a limited edition 992 tribute to the original 73RS, with ducktail and 6 speed manual gearbox!

Doesn’t take much imagination to guess how it will look and be spec’d, IMO. I wouldn’t be surprised if some of the 1970’s design cues of the 992 were made with this in mind (like creased front trunk lid, coke bottle fenders, and horizontal dashboard layout with vintage font on the analog tach, etc)

Will look great with Fuchs wheels from the new Speedster with Mexico, Guards, or Viper centers keyed to Carrera side script and Grand Prix White paint to go with fixed ducktail spoiler. 550hp 4.0L from next RS (or rumored Limited 991.2 RS)?

I stopped reading after paragraph two because ... well ... you hurt my feelings :-) Then I realized you compared the R to the wrong car. It has one of those wingie things. We know the Touring is the more superior car. Get back to me when you can do a proper comparison:-)

Nice try 911R flipper at inflating the investment. We all know the Touring owns all.

Thanks for the comparison. It would be interesting to get your thoughts on the R versus the Touring. Others have mentioned on RL that the Touring is louder on the interior than the winged GT3. Perhaps the Touring would remind you more of the R sound-wise. It would be interesting to know how much more, if any, sound deadening there is in the Touring compared to the R. Not that I necessarily want my Touring to be louder than the R. The winged GT3 I drove at PEC LA was plenty loud for my ears. Maybe someday I will be lucky enough to drive or at least be driven in an R. Kudos to you for having both a GT3 and an R. Best of both worlds.

911R and 9912GT3: on paper, same... when driven... R is R, GT3 is not R

1. 997.2 GT3RS 4.0
2. 991R
3. 997.2 GT3RS 3.8
4. 991.2 GT2RS
5. 996 GT3RS
====>

some may argue 996gt3RS is bee's knees...
I kept looking at your top 5. you know other than 4.0, I can't decide the order of 2-5. they are all so good

but I do agree that 9912GT2RS > 9912GT3RS, this is coming from a historical turbo HATER.

I personally like the more aggressive 991.2 front end. I just sold my 991.2 PDK to get an allocation. My Touring will be here in 3 weeks. I have heard the Touring is louder on the road so it will be interesting to see for myself. Touring would have been a better comparison. Several have done it, and slightly tip it to the 991R but mainly because it is special. Splitting hairs really. Both are among the greatest 911s ever IMO. For me the turbo cars are way down the list.

Let me know if you find the Touring to be louder than the winged version? I have driven the Touring for about 50 miles in my friend's car and I can't tell the difference in terms of the Touring being louder than the winged version. To my ears, they are the same

One thing that is quite noticeable on the new 4.0 liter engine in the .2 GT3, it sounds "boomier" than the 4.0 liter in the R.

You need to spend some time with a 996 GT3RS, it is quite good! A good friend of mine lend me his 996 GT3RS on a 3 day rally of Taiwan (he drove his 964RS, which later broke down during the rally) and it was fantastic!

I wonder if the cables or actual shifter mechanism is different between the 911R and the GT3. I doubt it, but I can’t think of another reason why they would feel different.

Do you drive either with rev matching on?

Louder should not be a point
1000$ center mufflers delete and you re louder than ever,

suspensions i think .2GT3 is too soft not sure i d like an even softer one,

Steering yes but i would change it only if not going on track, actually .2GT3 steering precision on track is far superior eventhough at cost of some rawness at standard road,

SMFW upgrade doable but i rememver AP saying on YT something about engine reliability at risk , after .1GT3 engine issue i can understand they re ultra concerned with reliability, isn t R using a .1GT3 uograded fingers version , wondering why SMFW has not(?) a reliability issue on the R as well as .2GT3

The R engine has a solid crank, the 991.2 GT3 engine has a hollow crank so it can run lower oil pressure. Something like that. Anyway, AP said something about the bearing (I assume main bearings) suffering if you fit a lightweight flywheel to a 991.2 GT3.
