Whey did they go so far backwards in the early hours?

In IMSA there are safety car wave-by opportunities (so lapped cars can get a lap back under SC conditions). As a result, teams set the car up for the predicted conditions at the end of the race ... if you’re on the lead lap at the end of the race you have a shot.

Where are all of the "experts" who assert that the 911 RSR cannot compete in WEC or IMSA without a turbocharged engine?
Porsche won the IMSA GTLM race in 2018, as well as all three opportunities to win in 2019 (GTE Pro, GTE Am, IMSA GTLM) ... whereas the Ford GT never won Sebring (2019 is its final year).
Over the past year the factory GT motorsport effort has won nearly every major race globally:
Sebring 2018
Nurburgring 2018 (GT3 Car)
Le Mans 2018
Petit Le Mans 2018
Bathurst 2019 (GT3 Car)
Sebring 2019
The only black marks were Daytona (haven't won since 2014) and Spa 24 Hours.

Since the post above, Porsche has:
Won IMSA GTLM at Long Beach
Won IMSA GTLM at Mid-Ohio (and also finished third)
Clinched the FIA World Endurance Championship at Spa (strong chance to win the race as well, but strategy was a gamble - it snowed 4x in 6 hours!)
Strong momentum going into Le Mans!
