Looking at lightly used 2016-2017 cars. Clearly these choices diverge when considering depreciation... but what are the head-to-head driving impressions? If you’re well-experienced with both, I’d really appreciate hearing your thoughts and preferences.

I’ll use the car for canyon and rural highway fun. No track use (got that covered already).

Thanks in advance! Please include experiences of ownership including service and repair...

I’ve owned a 570 amd now have a gt3.2 manual. Actually traded the 570 for it...570 will obv get way more attention w the doors and looks,570 is very fast but has legit turbo lag, 570 does not reallly have any sound..this was the hardest part for me to deal with..no startup sound and no sound cruising around..gt3 sounds epic especially at high RPM..I mean at the end of day Gt3 way more of a drivers car has more emotion etc, 570 has lots of power and looks good but kinda numb to drive

I own a 570S and have driven but do not own a GT3.2 manual and a GT3.2RS, not much experience with the dot 1 but I would guess they are pretty similar. I would rate the McLaren's steering (hydraulic rather than electric) higher, and prefer the chassis dynamics as well. If anyone has Lotus experience, you'll know what I mean when I say the 570S feels like an Exige on mega-roids. Mac has significantly more thrust, and if you keep it in the happy part of the rev band, basically zero turbo lag. As a weekend canyon runner, I would prefer the 570S, as a track car the GT Porsches win hands down. They sound better, too, but frankly I have never understood the willingness to give up performance for sound, but I recognize I'm in the minority on that question. To me, the 570S with sport exhaust sounds just fine, but yeah, not as loud/cool as the muffler-delete GT3s out there. Maybe Ducati will chime in here, he owned a 570S and now has a dot 2 RS.

In my search for a new car I was looking at a 570S Spider. I really like how the car felt, not harsh or rough on any type of road. I liked the power, much different delivery then a GT car (Turbo v. NA) and it was comparable to my tuned 997.2 Turbo S. Smash on the accelerator and it's intoxicating. With the sport exhaust the sound was nice, good for a suburban neighborhood. I have friends like Gary(SF) and other who've had zero issues, but I've also had friends on the opposite side.

I almost pulled the trigger on one....BUT the reason I didn't was I was offered a .2 3RS 3 days before pulling the trigger and I couldn't turn that down. This is a Porsche forum so I say go with the Porsche

Against a .1 gt3, there is no question in my mind I'd be going to the Mclaren, but mainly because the Mclaren is more fun playing with boost and hooning around on roads, where the Gt3 is really only fun at high rpm (which is great in theory, but for a road car gets pretty old, pretty quick. The presence of the Macca is also really cool, and something that doesn't tend to wear out after you've gotten used to the driving dynamics. Yes, the 570 is a little quirky, but you get the hang of it pretty quick, and its a complete blast. Also, its a canyon WEAPON with the suspension setup the way it is...it can handle bad tarmac really well to boot.

These are exactly the opinions I was hoping for, thanks to each of you!

And please keep the info coming! I have driven the 570, but it wasn’t mine and I didn’t want to start throwing someone else’s car around. Even so, I was impressed...the steering and ride compliance were surprising, I must say. And the forward sight lines are *right there*, so different than my Z06 and Viper. I love all the different characteristics and implementations that both the GT3 and 570 have, compared to my domestics.

If you live in SF Bay Area I'd be glad to share a longer exposure to the 570S...

Isn't 600lt the better comparison given it's the track focused version (as the Gt3 is to 911)? I've never driven a Mac but i have a Mac dealer track event in 600lt this week and I'm excited to try it out.

The mclarens also rev pretty high, the gt3 has "lag" at 2k rpm, granted the power is linear as the rpms climb, the mclaren has the same high revving behavior, but yes, there is an additional hammer effect from the amount of power that's present when the turbos hit.

I have driven the 570 but I do not see it as a direct Competitor to the GT3 but would be a nice addition. Would take it over a Porsche Turbo where I see it more competing.
