Yup...that dirt section of Mulholland has been closed to motor vehicle traffic for 15-20 years. You can still bike or hike it. Used to be fun to take the Jeep up there...

Thanks a lot for the additionals tips.I appreciate it.
Tujunga, Angeles and route 33 are also on our to do-list It gives me confidence that your recommendations match our current route

Regarding Tujunga, do you recommend leaving Angeles Crest for Tujunga and then heading south or would you do part of Tujunga and then heading back to Angeles Crest?
More precisely, after taking Upper Big Tujunga Canyon Road, do we turn back to Angeles Crest HWY (yellow with 2 on in) or do we continue south to Big Tujunga Canyon Road?

Small writeup after getting back ..

I added a lot of pictures on my Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/unrestricted.eu/

I also added some of the routes (with pictures and text) in a free mobile app I created.
iPhone: https://apps.apple.com/ng/app/unrestricted/id1446441973
Android: https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...g.unrestricted
Some of the suggestions (eg. Tujunga) here, made it to the app! Feel free to check it out and comment on the route (if you like it, or if I forgot something).
It's completely free, so don't shoot me

My personal favorite was Route 33 .. simply amazing. Followed by Angeles Crest .. Would have loved to drive that one in a faster car with better brakes ...
Guess I'll have to come back some day

Yes 33 from Ojai to the valley and back is my favorite! And quiet too. Glad you enjoyed it.

Saw your post on IG and it looked good! The 33 is a great road!

I learned about 33 via Jalopnik I mentionned them in the app

33 was really great. We saw 1 car (parked near a viewpoint, with a woman staring at the mountains) and 1 guy on a Harley enjoying himself. No other traffic for the full 33!
Even though it's quite far from where I live, I hope to be back one day.

Other recommendations in the area: Pjuuma, Stunt Road, ...

But, I won't complain. Next Thursday, I'm leaving for Stuttgart, St. Moritz, Meran, ... Expectations are high!

I agree with the other comments, Mulholland is superseded by other better driving roads around LA.

Give the Porsche Roads app a try, it has been recently revamped.

As for car rental, I recommend you looking at Black & White - https://bwrentacar.com/ instead of Hertz, their main facility is off LAX and is easily accessible.

I dunno, Mulholland from the 101 to the snake and up over the hill is actually a really great road. The problem is, it's highly trafficked and worse, highly patrolled. like, never speed there. just cruise.

Is the snake open yet, was closed 2 weeks ago.

There are several other roads in the canyons that are not patrolled nearly at all that are great. But, they are much tighter and not as sweeping as Mulholland.

Now, as far as favorites: 25, 33, 58, ACH, AFH, UBC, etc. Those are better, but, the ACH roads tend to be patrolled. 33, on the other hand, i saw ONE car on it last week, an hour, of blasting, and NO traffic.

Chris, you have to add 128 up here to your list. Shaw took me up to it yesterday. It's amazing. Gotta be top 5 of CA roads. Worth getting up early to drive it.

Was just talking to Mooty about a “cruise” later this summer. May have to bring tang up for a proper antique flogging ... the long way of course!

The burned out bridge is not on Mulholland Drive. It is on a side road.

I got a ticket east of Cornell last year...ironically the court date was during the worst of the Woolsey fire...cop was no doubt handling more important duties than showing up for my ticket.

Ok I see. Mulholland actually continues up to the rock store and the snake but that’s after that bridge.
