Gentlemen,

I've waited since 2014 if not longer for a GT2 to only find out they're $200K over sticker. The prices haven't come down and I question if it's even worth it with the 992 generation has started. I'm looking at the 991.2 GT3 RS at the moment. Beautiful car but I'll be honest. I feel like 911's are like the new iPhones. People rant and rave about them until the next one comes out then they get rid of them. Is it a drivers car? Of course. Does it sound great? You bet. But are some of you keeping these cars a long time before you get rid of them for the next one? If you look at the 600LT they're about the same price. I'm ready to move on a car and this is definitely the one I have my eyes on. What's the running cost? This one has steel brakes. I've seen possibly 2 GT3 RS since they've come out but for some reason I can't get this thought of I'll just have another 911 since it's not a $400K-500K Lamborghini or Ferrari.

TrakCar, I remember months ago we'd speak on the GT2RS. Same as we both thought back then. Paying a premium for a RWD Turbo S wasn't what was in mind. I see you got a GT3RS on the way good for you! I'll do track every now and then yes but this isn't something that will be the norm.

Mass27, I still have near $500K GT2 RS in the area so I don't think it's worth the premium. The GT3 RS has that wide turbo body I'm looking for. I just was curious as to why so many GT owners get rid of their cars so quickly. The 600LT are going for $280K which is around the market for the GT3 RS which is why I brought it up. $30K-$40K more for a 600LT doesn't sound bad against a $490K GT2 RS. Even a 720S is an arguably faster and cheaper car. As far as Lamborghini and Ferrari. I've noticed owners would sell their 911's for a Lamborghini or Ferrari be it V10 or V12 model and not look back. The 991.2 looks nearly perfect and the performance is amazing compared to what else is on the market for the money.

Since you infrequently track and per your own words want more of an "occasion" drive, I'd recommend a gently used 488 or Huracan still under warranty.

With the 991.2 generation, GT3 RS makes no sense if not tracking. GT3 (non RS) is better for street driving and cheaper. So it all depends on what itch you are trying to scratch:

Driver's car for public roads - GT3
Streetable track car - RS
Exotic car - consider other options because that's not where GT3 or RS have their core strengths - their level of "exoticness" is about proportional to their price, without much of an advantage compared to other options.

That's a lot of questions thrown into a single paragraph. What do you want out of the car? Looks? Performance? Resale? And what is the intended use? Street? Track?

It sounds like you're just looking for an expensive car, but aren't really passionate about any of them. I wouldn't be asking what others are buying - just buy the one that really gets your juices flowing. And if the answer is 'none of them', save your money.

Honestly I was after a 675LT. That was everything. Exotic looks and performance but with Mclaren saying there's going to be 18 more cars by 2025 and the fact they all basically have the same V8. The 675LT will take a serious hit over time. I'm not into the Huracan and Ferrari will exaggerate. Since the GT2 was a goal for me many years. Now I'm able to move on one I'm curious to think what other owners have to say about them. I like the 991.2 GT3 RS because of the turbo body, NACA ducts and the new bumper. To me personally it makes it look more exotic. I feel it'll hold more of it's value over a Mclaren and more rare than a Huracan. So if I ever need to get out of it I'd feel more comfortable.

Some people get rid of them every couple years because they are trying to drive them for minimal loss so they flip for next iteration. Like a Ponzi scheme with their Dealer- sort of

I've been out of the Porsche seen for several years now. I had a 996 GT3, 997 GT3 and then a 997 GT2. I became disillusioned over the rising prices on the new GT cars. I was unable to get a new one at MSRP. I went over to the Ferrari world and owned several. Owned a 675LT as well and loved it. Problem is if you want to track a Ferrari/Mclaren the costs are ridiculous. The operating costs of owning a out of warranty F car are high. Its 5k/year for the Ferrari New Power Warranty, which by the way doesn't cover leaks. Insurance is much higher as well. Long story short nothing comes close to the GT3 or RS for performance and running costs. That's why I sold my Speciale and bought a new GT3RS. I swallowed my pride and paid over MSRP. I bought exactly what I wanted and I'm happy with it. Now I can track it and do all the things I did in years gone by and not sweat the miles or the costs. In my humble opinion really nothing else matches up cost wise.

That's why I want a 911. Because if all else fail I know they'll live up to their performance. Reading through this forums a lot of owners on learned their lessons going to Ferrari and came back. GreyGT3. I just hate Porsche didn't make a normal GT2 but they went straight to the GT2 RS.

If I had to choose, I would drop my 458 in a heartbeat to keep my 3RS.

If you want flash, go with Ferrari or Lamborghini. If you want to track, the Porsche GT platform is great. McLaren is maybe a mix of both, but dealership availability is limited and long-term durability remains to be seen. Personally, I would pickup a 600LT to try out if there was a dealership nearby.
