There is a Rennlist member who drove 9,000 miles across the country in 15 days in his 997 GT3RS. The 991 platform is a much more comfortable platform so yes you can DRIVE these cars! They were made to be DRIVEN!

I highway drive my .2GT3 a fair amount - to from ATL to get to tracks. It's fine for highway. Unless you're heading to the track a lot I'd consider getting rid of the Cup2s. They're terrible in the rain if there is any standing water.

Drive it.
When I picked up my .1 I drove it home, 7 hours 15 minutes, 77 mph average, cruise set at 83 most of the way. There is a very slight exhaust noise barely noticeable at this speed that went away as I gained in altitude. In fact I did the SW center muffler replacement to get the sound back at altitude.
I bought it to use as a grand tourer and have zero concern about it being too much car for extended days cruising the two lanes of the west and credit card camping in hotels.
The fact that these cars change personalities in milliseconds (suspension/engine mounts/exhaust note) based on throttle position and maybe pushing a few buttons makes them well suited for a variety of uses.
You won’t arrive at work with a headache and backache; instead you will arrive with an involuntary grin, then spend the next 4 hours thinking about a quick drive at lunch (hopefully w a coworker along as you like sharing the experience), and the next 4 hours anticipating the drive home.
If you’ve got no issues with the 160-180 miles added to the odo, the drive will be a sensory experience, like every other drive in these cars.

About 24-hours after picking up the car....nearly 900 miles.
Drive back from Atlanta to Detroit was more than comfortable, lwb seats and all.
Actually....I was pleasantly surprised on the interstate.

I found the GT3 to be a great highway car. Drove my Wing from Cave Creek, AZ to Palm Springs CA, and onto downtown LA last week, cruises nice @4000 rpm in 6th gear, not too loud, sport buckets very comfortable.
Plenty of torque in any gear and the downshift passes up past 7000 rpm make it all worthwhile.
Do it !!!

Hey Guys - For those of that really drive your 991.2 GT3s how is it on the highway. I'm looking hard at a touring purchase. This won't be my daily driver but I do like to drive my "Toy" car to work a few days a week and that's 120 miles round trip mostly highway. I'm guessing highway cruising at 75-80mph is 3000-3500 RPM. How is it? Annoying?, No Issue ?
Thanks
Jeff
Thanks

I felt the car was too noisy overall for a daily but great for a track car, i.e. less insulation in wheel wells so I heard every pebble hit the car, typical PDK coins in the can noises with the low insulation and most importantly, the torque on the low end was not as expected for daily driving smoothness.
I traded mine for a 991.2 Turbo S which you may want to look at and test drive for the use you describe. Great daily and occasional track car.....and super fast...........GTS and Targas are also nice daily drivers if you want something other than 992 base car, etc......
Not the main reason we buy these cars, but value and depreciation is a consideration for some of us. The Turbo S will typically depreciate faster than a GT3, but once the 992 GT3 comes out, the 991.2 GT3 will drop as the 991.1 GT3 has dropped in value..........good luck in your decision process and test drive the GT3 if you can.......I did the Turbo versus the GT3 at the PEC Atlanta and still made the wrong choice, so it is not an easy choice as the GT enamors you with the sonorous exhaust. The Turbo S is better than expected in Sport Plus mode, but that exhaust of the GT3 is hard to beat......

I love taking my Touring on long drives, however, if you have a lot of rough pavement on your commute, it really gets loud. I took mine on a 3,500 mile, 10 day road trip last summer, and the 8 hour days were a bit much across Utah and Nevada. Earplugs helped.

Obviously opinions vary greatly. My wife and I find the GT3 amply comfortable on 300-600
mile drives to and from various Tracks. No question that the ride is stiffer and noisier than
our TTS. Biggest difference to me is that the responsiveness, excitement and precision of
the GT3 require enormous self-control to fit into the usual mind-numbing traffic surrounding us,
lest we display our suppressed hooliganism and risk our license. Driving our TTS, E63S or
Panamera-S make it far easier to "just drive" placidly in quiet and peaceful isolation from the
surrounding traffic albeit with far less involvement and much of the sheer joy the GT3
provides as a thoroughbred Sports Car.

I had the 991.1 GT3RS and found that to be fine and comfortable for long trips. I think the PDK is way better for long trips as the 7th gear helps keep the RPMs at a decent cruising decibel. The manual is tons of fun but yeah in 6th and high speeds for long periods it's rough.
I do also think they removed some deadening material in the .2 as my GT3T and RSs have more road noise than the previous ones.

Edit: Oh, and I should add -- I was on winter tires, which add a bit to noise level.

It will put a big smile on your face as a semi daily driver. My commute is about 30 minutes and mostly freeway, so nothing exotic road wise. But I do look forward to my drive. My GT3T is LOUD on the freeway. This is on cup 2's and a freeway surface of average smoothness. This seems to be overwhelmingly tire/road noise at FW speed. Not sure about other Rennlisters' experiences but I can't carry on a relaxed phone call over the cars bluetooth system. At street speeds I can, even with spirited revving/shifting. IOW might be a little sketchy depending on your roads if you are planning any mid commute business calls etc. OTW the car is unbelievable.

It all depends on your personal preference and what you’re used to driving.
My GT3 is Much more comfortable than my DD (Evo IX with racing Ohlins coil overs and loud exhaust). GT3 feels like a Bentley in ride comfort and lack of noise, in comparison...
I would much rather drive the GT3 for a long road trip (I find it very comfy as long as I use a little lumbar cushion with the LWB’s).
Stock top gearing in Evo is much lower too (22mph per 1,000 rpm, rather than ~25 in the GT3)
