Appreciate all the thoughts.

What about the titanium rear muffler from the RS? I assume that can be easily swapped with the GT3 version? Anyone know how much weight that saves with that one mod by itself?

I agree...I have Soul Side Muffler delete pipes. Great quality product. I unhooked the valves and have been driving around and really like the little bit extra sound below 4000rpm.

Thanks for your input. That sounds ideal, as long as you don't lose any low end torque with that change.......and people don't seem to agree on this subject

EDIT- though I would opt for keeping the valves, even if it costs me those 3 lbs. I thought the valves affect low end torque if I recall correctly.

About 6.5 lbs difference between gt3 & 991.2 RS center muffler, which is a revision of the 997/991.1 RS muffler

I do not feel there is a loss of low end torque with (valved) side deletes, it actually feels (or just sounds...) a little bit more alive in the lower rpm range.
Sound is not almost identical to stock to my ears, definetely louder below 4000rpm, above almost the same as stock. I like it, mainly because it
retains the stock sound characteristics and it´s not over the top, just the way a GT3 should sound. There is a drone around 3000rpm with valves open
and constant speed, none with valves closed.I also installed a remote control for the exhaust valves, which gives me the choice of mild or wild anytime.
Perfect for my taste soundwise, and even better with weight savings and less rear tire heating.

With the center muffler delete I had tried before, I could indeed sense a loss of torque. Along with that, sound was nice, but so loud that it
overlayed that glorious airbox noise above 7500rpm. Back to stock after one hour, not my defintion of sound, just noise.

Info below could be helpful, from this you can determine the weight savings of each of the possible configurations. Safe to say that our exhaust options are amongst the lightest solutions available for this platform.

I saved 35lbs by doing the side muffler deletes on my GT3RS. Its a definitely a little louder over 4K but like everyone says, just amplifies the stock sound and doesn't really change it much in my opinion. Plus I have the valves so you can vary the sound for what you need.

my 997 has absolutely no drone, it makes a little power...had 20k hard track miles with zero cracking

it’s expensive, buy worth it

if anyone else interested maybe we can get a group buy....I’m buying thru Titan Motorsports when I finalize

This- I had the full Akra, header back with 100 cell cats- was not louder under 5K RPM, above it sounded better. Saves 50 lbs at least. A support bracket did crack on mine however.

I'd like to drop a decent amount of weight from the exhaust.........but in contrast to many of you guys, I'm fine with the quality and volume of sound from my .2 GT3. So I'm not looking to make the car louder, just lighter.

What do you guys recommend?
The Akrapovic Evolution Exhaust will save you just over 30 lbs in total. As many can attest Akra isn't obnoxiously loud either. They make sure to fine tune the sound so that it's only an incremental improvement over the OEM sound rather than changing the entire character of the exhaust note.

No group buy needed. As Akra's largest dealer in the U.S. I will provide anyone interested with industry leading pricing - whether you make that purchase with a bunch of friends or you do so solo

From a return on investment standpoint, our side muffler bypass pipes net either 35lbs or 38lbs (non-valved $945 vs valved $1395). Deleting the side mufflers also nets a great decrease in heat soak to the rear tires, this is noticeable for track guys and is not to be undervalued. This is my favorite bang for the buck modification for the GT3 platform.

Here are some photos of the side mufflers compared to our non valved bypass pipes on our shipping scale

That said, we have also just added our Modular Competition Exhaust Package, netting 46lbs-49lbs weight savings over factory depending again on whether or not you maintain valves in the side muffler bypass pipes. This system starts at $1940 and will be released on Rennlist this week in it's own dedicated thread.
