Default [VIDEO] FRONT RIGHT WHEEL CLICKING ON TURN

See video.

This sound has been apparent for about a month now.
1.1 RS
Ceramic Brakes

When turning LEFT only, the front RIGHT wheel "clicks" [Disregard the rocks / stones in my tyre tread, the sound is NOT from those]

Happens going forward OR backward. Though backward not as loud i dont think.

This happens at low speed [could happen at high speed but i cant hear it as the wind noise is too much]. Though i do think it does happen at higher speeds, as when i'm say next to a guard rail or a wall, and taking a sweeping left, i feel i can hear it also.

It happens with Axel Lift up or down (see video). And note the litlle "phhssstt" when lowering axel lift (i believe this was discussed in another thread- its normal. That sound happens, for me anyway, 8/10 times i lower the car)

It happens when also pressing the brake & accelerating, which leads me to believe its not related to the brakes (though i dont KNOW this)

I have taken it to dealer, and tech drove car with me. THEY think its to do with the rear wheel steering. I dont see how this could be.
Anyhow, its booked in with Porsche mid March, and i will revive the thread once there is a solution. Though i thought i would post up anyway for your thoughts.

In addition. This clicking sound only happens when turning. Not going straight. Not when turning RIGHT. ONLY WHEN TURNING LEFT.
My logic tells me, when the front RIGHT corner of the car is loaded up with weight, it happens. Could it be a wheel bearing or something?

I have gotten under the car to look for anything obvious but nothing.
I have cleaned everything with air compressor
I have cleaned everything with high pressure hose.
Happens when hot & cold. When car is driven daily or has been sitting for days with no driving.

I cant think of any event or cause that could have triggered it.

Ceramic brakes? I remember reading on here about this noise...I bet you it's the brakes!

Sounds like something is dragging on the tire?

I had a similar issue on my Z06: https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...n-turning.html

I ended up having the dealer perform the service described in the TSB linked above and never had the noise return over the course of 8K miles. Not sure if this could be related, but seems like a simple fix to try. GL

Im going to do this tonight (hopefully) and report back on the results.

Lucky i have everything there including the proper Castrol grease etc for taking CL wheels off.

Im still open to hear other members suggestions in the mean time!

Have you checked if the wheel weights are contacting the brake caliper? Never mind I just checked mine. There's too much clearance so that can't be it.

Had exact same issue the the floating hardware and hat on brakes is the issue and you cannot fix it.

The dealer needs to replace the entire rotor assembly for you only way to fix it.

Its normal I would say, mine makes all kinds of sounds left or right front, sometimes under light cornering, sometimes under hard cornering.

The thing that concerns me is that its a "new" sound.

Had it had been there from day 1, like the other sounds in the RS, then i would think its ok.
But having only been prevalent recently leads me to believe something is a miss.

Okay boys & girls.

Bringing everyone some good news!

So i heeded the advice of NightBlueTTS [Thank you] and proceeded to take the wheel off.

First time in doing so by the way. I dont know what all the fuss is about of taking off CL wheels. It was very easy. I actually much prefer it to 5 stud now i have done it.

Mind you i came prepared.
Many months ago i bought a big breaker bar, and a very big torque wrench. But it was quite easy to remove and put on. Im not a strong person by any means. And even for me it was easy.

As per the Porsche spec, i elevated the wheel for removal etc. Dont let CL put you off taking your wheel off. Its not hard at all.

I also had the Derlin wheel guides and jack pads. Excellent quality parts if your considering buying them, get them. Smokin GTS (i think) sells them.

Anyway, took wheel off. Got a rag. Sprayed it with Brake cleaner (sprayed the rag) and wiped down the mating surfaces on the back of the wheel, and the hub.
Neither of the surfaces were dirty at all. They were both very clean to begin with. But i wiped them down anyway.

Mounted the wheel back up.
Took it for a drive.

BOOM! Fixed. All Micky Mouse now!
Loving it.

In my head, i dont even think it was the mounting surfaces. I just think taking the wheel off, and putting it back on. Re-seating everything thats what fixed it.

But no more clicking! Will report on how long it lasts. Will revive the thread if it comes back.

Thanks again NightBlueTTS! I will be cancelling this warranty claim with Porsche for now.
