Didn't hear it. But as traditionalist find myself surprisingly sanguine about hybrid in upcoming GT3 RS, at least as far as what's been inferred so far. The concept of keeping the sweet NA flat six sound and top-end, combined with low-end torque of a turbo sounds pretty appealing to me. Weight will certainly be a question but ultimately the proof will be in execution and I trust Porsche engineers are up to the task. Just look what the 919 has accomplished. One thing I think we can count on is that it'll crush current GT3 RS from pure performance numbers standpoint.

One major problem - for some - with hybrid technology in the GT3 is that it would spell the end of the manual transmission in the GT3.

exactly. That is one big reason why the entire 992 GT3 line will stay NA only.

While the top dog (and PDK only) RS will go hybrid sometime in the 992 generation

Drifting - did you see that spy video above of what looks like the 992 GT3? That does not sound NA to me. It sounded turbocharged to my ears but others are saying it sounds hybrid. If it is turbocharged, at least they could keep the manual but turbocharging the GT3 makes no sense to me. Porsche would have a challenge on their hands trying to distinguish the lower-cased turbo and turbo-S from the GT3 from the GT2... NA with hybrid technology makes more sense to me, anyway.

We should not jump to conclusion: They probably test a lot of different power sources etc.

FWIW: All I can say is that the GT3 I saw on the Ring in October definitely not was turbo and that it sounded glorious.

Rumors of the internal combustion engine's imminent demise are greatly exaggerated....

And by doing so it will morph from top dog to top hog.

yes these guys made an aftermarket bolt on hybrid that works with a manual, but only for a few seconds at a time.

In the real world, made in a real factory, an automatic/DCT hybrid works much better in all the various different situations and applications of power delivery, particularly for a track ready sports car.

please show me a single hybrid car from a major manufacturer in this century that had a manual transmission.

I think manual and hybrid don’t mix in AWD cars like 918 where the electric and gas engines drive separate axles.

In the GT3, the electric will supplement the gas on the engine’s flywheel (connected only to RWD transmission), so it should be possible to use manual...

Thanks grant. Appreciate your insight. That makes sense as a potential hybrid option to improve low end torque and total power in a car known for being RWD only.

I still think that because it will add significant weight, and because it's the shiny new thing, that the first GT car to get this will be a 992 RS. I'm 1000% percent certain the 992.1 GT3 will be NA only, using the 991.2 RS engine, with both manual and PDK options.
