Blue gt3

Hey y’all! Fellow pcar owner. Been eyeing 991 gt3s. Doing my research, so no stupid questions. Anyone know this car? Checks all the boxes minus the taillights. Thx!

I googled the vin. CA salvage.

VDBGT3 02-15-2019 08:48 PM

It says it has a salvage title and was a total loss in the description on their webpage...

Yeah. So it was a stupid question!

Too much for a salvaged title

Fdvigna 02-16-2019 05:37 PM

Google vin Image

Ugh .. speculation: looks like a track accident to me.

There are no stupid questions, except those that are not asked. Always research a VIN before wasting your time checking the boxes.

Side topic - does anyone know how a car gets tagged with a "salvage" designation? The link above shows $32K of repairs on a $164K car. What's the threshold for "salvage"? And does that vary by state or is it a national thing?

General rule - Cost of Repair + Salvage value > Cash Value of Car. This rule is tweaked by state regulations.

There's a white one on Copart that looks like a reasonable project car. The buy it now is around $65k. Banks typically aren't interested in financing salvage cars, insurance becomes a hassle and selling one down the road will leave you with a narrow market. Not sure how Porsche would handle an engine warranty on a salvage car

I see people saying this all the time and it just isn't true. I have financed a salvaged titled car myself with no issues whatsoever. Yes, absolutely there are people who wouldn't touch a salvaged car. I used to be one of them but a little open mindedness and experience changed my view. Since you are buying low you'll end up selling low as well - so what?

That said, as for this car, I think there are too many components in the rear of any 911 to make me confident that everything has been repaired properly. Plus it's a GT3, people tend to be a little more passionate (read: picky) about these cars. I'd pass.

Plus the price difference between this and a non-salvage is only 10-20k.
