Looks to me like a standard Porsche nut is turned down to accommodate the toothed outer ring that counters the torque from the motor. This is why the tool doesn't rotate while the nut is tightened.
Hytorc appears to be well versed in the torque instrument business so it's probably more thought out than is appreciated. Not sure how I feel about this solution, but kudos to them for trying something new.
I can't help but wonder why they didn't just make a custom reaction arm like is used at the factory to avoid modifying the nut.

Pretty impressive. At that cost I'm sure it's targeting Pcar specific shops.

In the factory method pictured above, is the nut tightened from the inner splines of the locking mechanism (and not using the special socket that came with the car)?

I assume the green piece is the reaction arm you mentioned and just rests against the inner wheel spokes? This may only work with some wheel designs...

seeing the rest of the jig shows it's not quite as simple as hoped.

That's correct, although it shouldn't make much difference. And I agree, it wouldn't work with all wheels, but relative to the cost/risk of modifying the nuts they could have different/custom reaction arms. Sequence starts at 45:15.

Thanks! I'm surprised Porsche doesn't sell that tool (at least to shops for a high price)...

New, I would guess 6-8 thousand with maintenance contract.

great find

or... Porsche could go back to five lugs
Plus if you look carefully on the video, they also replaced the Porsche centerlock nut in order to mate with the hytorc gun, hence add the cost of the 4 specialty centelock nuts to the cost

The factory has a similar wrench, but it just pushes against the wheel spokes - seems like a better solution to me.
EDIT: sorry missed the above

Seems like everything I’m about to use the big bar, there is a shop around to do it for me.

For some it’s benefit/benefit.

Looks like an excellent company with very good engineering. Apparently the gun will need special nuts that look identical to OE on the outside. For those with more than one centerlock car, that cost will add up but should be worth it. I look forward to seeing the product.

The center of the centerlock they used is OEM. They adapted the friction ring that gets the messy paste and obviously the outside of the ring was modified. It's really trick and was effortless.

It was obvious to me they know what they are doing. Still early in the process so who knows where it will go.
