Wink Grant, I'm glad you have clean oil,

but that doesn't mean everyone will. The post wasn't aimed at your findings, just something to think about for those that think they can ignore frequent oil changes with impunity.

I was very surprised not to find anything in the filter (first time without any debris among a few cars). I think it’s possible that the well worn advice may not apply to the newest cars as it once did. Just throwing it out there - maybe someone else would like to add additional data points with this:

I did first oil change at 3K miles. Tech showed me the oil and cut open the filter. Nothing. Clean as a whistle. Tech said yeah, looks good. Didn't really need to do the service so early but all the experts (lol) on Rennlist said it's a must

Not surprising. BTW, I once had a deal to buy a used 996 GT3. Was basically a done deal and had passed PPI at dealer, until I paid extra for an oil change in order to cut open the filter. Found a bunch of bearing material and fortunately stopped the sale in time...

While modern machining tolerances are better than ever before, it seems plausible that the first oil filter might not be dramatic.
Anyone that has taken the factory tour has seen the automation in deburring and manufacture, it really is getting better.

One reason to still perform an early first oil change is to flush out assembly grease and oils.
After break in these are not needed running around the system and I feel better after a change
