Window tinting question

I took my car to the shop to have the clear bra installed. I decided to also put some window tinting in. I have never had a car with tinted windows after market. They're talking about doing 35% on the side windows and 20% on the rear window. Does anybody have any comments regarding that? Is 35% too much on the driver side window to achieve good visibility? Thanks for the response

I’m not sure where you live, however in North Carolina 35% on the driver and passenger window is the legal limit...now are mine slightly darker???.... possibly, but definitely would not go any darker than 20%. At dusk or dawn, when someone is not running with their headlights it can be difficult to see them, especially if you’re pulling out onto a high-speed highway with a high closure rate. Actually, I’ve gotten into the habit at night of rolling down my window slightly as an added measure of precaution when pulling out onto a high-speed Highway from a dead stop. It always amazes me the number of people that don’t run with their headlights when it’s nearly dark ... Good Luck!!!! JB

Same limit here in TN. I wouldn't go any darker than what they're suggesting OP. More than that and you may have trouble at night.

I did 35 all around...legal limit most states too...definitely dark enough.

maspirito 02-10-2019 11:58 AM

I'm thinking the 20% is probably dark enough to give a bit of an effect but not too dark to cause a problem.

OP if you have an RS there are some concerns regarding tinting. Big thread on here somewhere

My car with 35

Mine with 50% all around. These pics probably exaggerate the darkness of it somewhat because they’re intentionally underexposed a bit to make the contrast and saturation pop, and I think I also used a polarized.

Prior to this I had never had windows tinted on any car I’ve had. I like it and haven’t found it a problem at all for visibility, even at night. Normally without tinting I have to wear a ball cap and sunglasses on sunny days to avoid eye strain and glare. But not now.

We tint everything here in AZ for heat reasons. Usually 35 around the car. A lot of people even tint the windshield (lightest color, but UV protection) even though it is illegal. It helps a ton on heat.

20% is really dark. Remember it's the amount of light let in, not the amount blocked. So 20% is much darker than 35%.

I would say 50% is perfect. Gives it a nice look.

Vintage72 02-10-2019 02:39 PM

I like 50% all around and 90% on the front.

Jimmy-D 02-10-2019 03:02 PM

50 on Windshield and 35 all around

Drifting 02-10-2019 03:03 PM

60% front, 40% rear, and 30% side windows (My shop doesn't offer 35% and I prefer a bit more rear visibility)

shapiroeric 02-10-2019 05:20 PM

I have 35% all the way which is legal and plenty dark....also I prefer it to be uniform darkness all the way around....
