Autodim mirror annoyance, how to cover “ring” of non-dim
#17
Yikes all this sounds complicated. I just flip mine and it works great .....the good ole manual way. (:

To be 100% clear, the advantage of autodim in my view is the side mirrors which reduce the blinding glare of SUVs with bright lights behind you in a low car. The flip of the windscreen mirror is no big deal (though not having to flip is nice).

I just looked on my Audi S4 Autodim mirror and there is a solid, black mask at reflectant level on the rear from the edge inboard about 2-3mm .
You could remove yours and access the rear of the mirror to do the same. Mask off and scrape or lightly sand blast the mirrior reflectant then paint
That is covering the front when the optical differences are on the rear of the mirror. It won't match exactly and you'll have a step edge that will still be noticeable. You need to remove the mirror reflectant off the rear and replace it with matte black paint .

Anybody have a photo of this ring? I have autodim mirrors and I have no clue what y'all are talking about. I guess I just haven't noticed it?

I have autodim mirrors. But I drive too fast to notice any nuances such as this...
