Have you done a search on rennlist? I'm sure there are tons of threads discussing this. Also, have you watched any of the reviews online when the 991.1 GT3 came out? They do a lot of comparisons against the 997 variant.

^ agree. I had a 997.1 GT3, and I think the answer depends on how you intend to use the car and your definition.... The 991 feels like it absorbs the bumps much better - especially noticeable for me mid corner. Does that mean it is less "raw"? some would say yes, some would say no.
I also feel significantly less tired after driving the 991 on long trips for example from SF to SoCal - it's just easier to drive IMO. Does that make it less raw? again, some would say yes. Comparison for me was gt2 seats (better IMO) in the 997, and LWB in the 991.
For size - it's not that much larger. I had both in my garage for a short time, and the most noticeable difference was how high the door line was in the 991 vs 997. This to me was the thing that made the 991 appear so much larger. When driving it, i get the sensation that the car is wider than the 997. Due to this lower sloping roofline, higher door line, the interior (both black) feels darker on the 991, and i think the visibility is less than the 997.
I am about a month away from my first track day with the 991 so i can't compare them on track yet but the question I get asked more often is: would you ever go back? my answer is no.
that doesn't mean i don't miss the 997 - it's just not within my budget to have both cars at this time. If the time comes in the future where i can, i would definitely need to own both.

991 GT3 looks a lot better than the narrow body non-RS 997.
997 is money in the bank with the Mezger block. The 991.1 will always been considered the red-headed step child with the troubled engine which I'm guessing won't be kind to value retention long game, relatively speaking.
997 feels like it has a lot less layers around you with its 993-esque interior shape and markedly smaller size.
Tough call, but I think I'd be swayed by the 991 just because I don't like narrow body 911s. Even the 991 Carrera 4 shells don't look wide anymore in the days of Turbo/RS 991 twerked rears.

- 991 has longer wheelbase and is more comfortable on longer drives.
- 997.2 GT3 was more raw, better sounding engine IMO.
- 991 PDK is wicked fast compared to rowing gears in 997.2.
- Don't miss 997.2 clutch around town
- 997.2 felt more track focused. It was smaller and tighter in my view.
- 991 is likely faster around track, but that will be based much on quality of the driver.
- 997.2 slightly more analog over 991. As more technology and features make their way into the newer cars we can all drive like we're heroes ??♂

997 GT3 has about the best ever power steering and is noticeably smaller and more raw

Pretty much agree with C2Spin. The effort on the 997.2 clutch was an issue for me but that is a personal point.

If you have to have 1 car that you will use, get the 991 GT3 as it has a split personality.
Easily the nicest riding GT3 around town - you can take the wife/gf to dinner, etc - very civilized.
Take if on a back road, or even better the track, and it's a wild angry car you have to hold on to. It picks up speed very fast, rifles through shifts and is really alive when you're driving in this manner.
Good luck.
