New 991.2/992 911 R being released late this year?
Just got a message from my dealer that Porsche is releasing the new 991.2/992 911 R late this year after the speedster starts hitting the showrooms ???
Can anyone confirm this ?

Yep I'm sure there is something coming, because then we can hear all the rants about how deals/promises that go south every other day from someone who got wronged (*wronged while trying to buy a $200k car mind you).

A bunch of 911R Owners complained "big time" that they got screwed when the Touring was announced(not making this up)- no more that Special.

Not sure what your dealer is smoking but I surmise they are smoking not the good stuff. Pure hearsay.

May be Porsche is trying to please the pissed off VIP customers.... if not they will not buy any future limited editions again and this VIP program might not last as long as intended ?

So, they would appease the VIP’s by giving them limited edition 520hp 911R for a high price and then **** them off again when the 992 GT3 has more power and other enhancements for less money?

This sounds speculative and highly doubtful. 4 models of the 992 have already been released and we know they'll keep on coming. In addition to this the 991 had quite a few end of run specials; even excluding the 2RS and 3RS there was the 935, GT2 Clubsport and the Speedster (arguably a convertible 911R), which in my view will be the end of the line.

I heard the same thing as OP from my dealer principal. He’s never been wrong before but it was still a bit hard to get my head around. If true, I will watch the frenzy with popcorn in hand.

If true, that will sink the 2016 911R resale another $50k - $75k. The VIPs love their 911R but probably want it with the better motor.

911R and GT3T still selling over sticker. Porsche: Nein! Vee vill make more and better cars. Schnell! Why sell 2000 992 for $150k, when you can sell 2000 911R for $225k.
