LWB and back issues

I've had a cayman R & GT4, both with LWBs, 18 way in the GTS and now 4 way in the GT3. While I have no major complaints from a comfort stand point with any of them I'm finding I like these 4 way sport seats in the GT3 the best. I feel like they hold me in just as well as the LWBs and fit me the best. I would say I found the 18 way to be the least comfortable.

997 GT2 (3) C/F bucket seats were the best IMHO. Used them in 3 cars, GT3, Carrera S and GTS. And they reclined!! Didn't find the new 991 buckets in my 16 RS any where near as comfortable. Ordered 4 ways for my 19 GT3. Will mount a Sparco SPX seat for my daily and track day use and let the wife keep the passenger 4 ways. She refused to ride in the RS because of the fixed seats and I found that they aggravated my back. Its a shame, they are great looking seats, just not comfortable for me.

Interesting comments by Patrick Long on "The Smoking Tire" podcast. Patrick whom of course has experience with long drives in 911's, discussed the custom seat inserts racers use. He says lower back discomfort stems from lack of hip and thigh support. If hips are sliding around, lower back gets cramped from trying to stabilize things, not so much from lumbar support. It seems to make some sense.
I personally have been happy to find the LWB's comfortable, despite some lower back pain history. Getting out a bit of a challenge.

See this thread for pictures and discussion of foam and other solutions.
Also, a solution that I used; A simple adjustable bladder that fits behind the cushion and provides tunable lumbar support.

I have lower back issues and the LWB in my previous 997.2 RS and current
991.1 GT3 are the best seats ever. Complete support. Most seats with lumbar support do not work for me and the inflation only makes matters worse. Only other seat that comes close is the seats in my VW GTI made by Recaro. Now getting out of the LWBs at near 70 is another matter.

I have LWBs on my 991.2 GT3 and 981 Spyder and have never had issues with my back despite being 52.I also have the Carbon buckets on my 458 and i find them more comfortable than the LWBs.I attribute this for two reasons.,The main reason is the 458 rides much better than either of my Porsches due to more supple suspension. The other reason is that Ferrari saw sense in having a **** to alter the backrest angle which is what Porsche should have done with their LWBs.
For a respected high end car maker Porsche seem to get some of the simplest things wrong when designing cars.

I have swapped Challenge Stradale seats into one of my cars, and Enzo seats into the other. Both have an incredible amount of padding, as well as adjustable backrest angle. They also make you feel hard wired into the car. Having a good seat makes or breaks a car, in my opinion. Makes all the difference in the world.

Just installed the Tracspec seat recliner brackets and I'm hoping this change alone will prevent any back issues with the LWBS's. I am now tempted to get a bit of memory foam, considering how cheap an add this is. It is what we also do with our Recaro race seats.

Been saying this for a long time. My back issues pop up when a seat is not holding me well enough and I'm constantly having to use my core muscles to stabilize myself against the cornering forces. It's not the lumbar, it's the lack of lateral support. Since my back issues are so bad, it doesn't take much to bring the pain. LWBS are a godsend for me. Zero pain even after hours in the seat. I'd never buy a Porsche again without them.

Cross-post back to old thread on Lumbar support for LWB
I just posted up some pictures at the end of the thread showing installation of the air-bladder lumbar support on the LWB of my new RS.
