Default 991.2 GT3 vs 991.1 GT3RS- which is better buy right now?

Interested in getting 911 GT car- difficult time deciding between 991.2 GT3 vs 991.1 GT3RS. Previous GT cars have included GT4 and 991.1 GT3.

Price range is $160-170k ideally and have seen some .1 3rs for 170-180 with 6-10k miles.

Will do 3-4 track days a year with the car. Car will primarily be weekend car and my cars are driven. Plan to keep 2-3 years.

what is the better buy? For those that have had both, can you please describe the driving dynamics Of each one? How does exhaust and audible notes differ ? What is faster?

thanks for your input

you are opening a can of worms
you will get a variety of responses
I owned .1 gt3 and .1 gt3rs , and had multiple opportunities to get a .2 gt3 but went directly to a .2 gt3rs
driven .2 gt3 multiple times and is a great car
but my vote will be for RS in particular you had a .1 gt3

Had .1 GT3 and .2 GT3. The .2 had noticeably better torque down low; a great engine. But in the end it didn't, overall, wow me from the .1. Was looking for something more; Seems I'm always chasing that. Ended up test driving a very low mileage .1 RS and that sealed the deal for me. I was VERY surprised how differently it felt and rode than .2 GT3. Sure, the low end torque of the .2 3 is better but the overall experience in the .1 RS is what did it for me. Whether I am driving on the street or tracking the car. If you know someone who owns a .1 RS or can possibly test drive one... do it.

If you desire PDK I would grab a .1 RS. There should be some deals out there now. Those prices are dropping

I too have had both and would pick the RS for reasons that C2Spin states. The hugely noticeable difference of the front end grip between the two makes the RS a clear winner for me. When I got my .2 GT3 it's what I missed about the RS the most. As wonderful as the .2 GT3 is, it just wasn't as confidence inspiring for me as the .1 RS... so, .1 RS would be my choice.

If you are worried about depreciation and if you stay PDK then the .1 RS will probably hurt you less as long as you buy right. There is a Canadian RS for 164K in the classifieds that looks really good.
OTH, if you go manual and don't pay any ADM, it's probably a wash. But manual is not the best choice if you track at all...speed wise in PDK versions there isn't much separating the two.

Good luck with your decisions. I obviously am not an RS guy, personally don't care for all the scoops and slats and have a real race car for the track.

If PDK is good by you and you don't care about the new PCM/back-up camera, then I'd for sure go .1RS. I'm hunting a .2 GT3 because I like the new PCM as I know it will add to my willingness to street it. If it wasn't for that, I'd probably go RS. Frankly I'm wondering if I shouldn't just put up the $$ and get a .2 RS.

Like OP, I also had .1 GT3 and GT4. Now have .2 GT3 Touring. Have driven both .1 and .2 GT3 RS.

If you prefer PDK, and since you said you will track, RS for sure.

Even though I love the Touring, prefer manual for street, am self-conscious about outward appearance of RS, and don’t track more than 1 day/yr (Smokies GT), even I’m tempted by .1 RS seeing many nice ones for sale at dealers in the $170Ks-$180Ks.

Both are great but the RS would do it for me. Much more aggressive looking plus it's more "affordable" now.

Check this track review done by EVO. They compare the performance of the .2 GT3 v .1 RS. Not going to spoil the end... Worth watching!
I went through the same predicament as you and ended up choosing the .2 GT3.

The best thing would be you going for a drive in each car and deciding what you feel is best for you. Do you know anyone with those cars that will let you drive it? Dealer?

If I had $170k burning a hole in my pocket right now, and I was set on getting a GT3 RS, i would not buy anything without looking at a 997 GT3 RS. Here’s one with 13k miles for $173k.
