An RS with some CPO or extended warranty for me.
But they’ve been pretty bullit proof, so not crucial.

This has been really helpful! Thank you all for the input. Can’t go wrong with either but I am leaning towards the RS.

I have driven .2 GT3 and loved it. Thought it was a decent improvement over .1 GT3 in low end power and overall driver engagement. I have never driven 3RS but can only imagine it being even more raw and visceral.

At that price point, I do get tempted by a 458 Italia. I know the tech is dated and that a 3RS would probably destroy one but I certainly do like them. Rather get into a GT car now though.

.1 RS more limited in numbers than .2gt3 which is another factor I’m considering.

For thosw that have had both the 991.1 3rs and 992 gt3, how do they differ in sound? Both in daily driving and on WOT?

I’ve owned them all. RS are special cars, just feel and sound different. If manual isn’t important, RS all day. In fact, i would buy a 991. 1 CPO GT3 before a 991.2 GT3; I love a raw loud mechanical car, for some reason that was engineered out of the .2, but man what an engine that new 4.0 is! No wrong answer, good luck.

I haven’t owned a .1 RS but have driven them. I owned a .1 GT3 and currently own a .2 GT3 (Touring / manual).

Sound-wise, the .1 RS is similar to .1 GT3, which OP also owned. That is, .1 RS has higher-pitched scream/whale than any .2 GT3 due to different engine design. I kind of miss that sound from my .1 GT3.

By comparison, .2 GT3, which I just drove in last hour, has much more of a tenor sound, even at mid and high revs, which some reviewers have describe as a “drone”. I like it, but honestly think I liked the sound of .1 better. Combined with the quick snap-off upshifts of the PDK, the .1 GT3 is a real screamer.

That 997 RS looks great. Have never had the pleasure of driving a 997 RS. Maybe someone at Smokies will oblige me this spring?

+1 same here i do miss my .1GT3 not so much the .1RS (only driven here n there) due .1RS not revving till 9k rpm so not singing with that .1GTs unnecessary hardware in the last 500rmps wondering everytime how can be that it doesn t explode? Is something you get not in the .1RS but only in the .1GT3 and as well in the 458 (a better steering and more bold hp and torque indeed in that beautyful v8)

anyways took me some time to understand
the Doctor Jeckill Mr Hyde Touring personality,
6th gear 1000 rpm like on the velvet a beast when you want to go crazy,
is intriguing more and more,

let s say Doctor Jeckill is sleeping if not dead in the .1 GTs and Mr Hyde is gone in .1RS

all in all the .2 (GT) is a more mature project

Simple....

If you desire a manual, get the 991.2 GT3. If PDK is up your alley, get the RS 100000%. An RS just feels more special.

BTW, I have a GT3 and it's only because I am a manual snob.

Default 991.1 RS Engine

Guys,

Looking to getting back into the GT3 fold, I sold my RB 991.1 GT3 as I was uncomfortable being cash in on a vehicle that had a design issue with the engine. I planned to keep the car long term but after 2 years I released her. Now with the new 991.2 GT3 becoming available here in the UK and prices are softening, my quick question was the issues seen on the 991.1 engine also an issue on the RS. I could easily be tempted into the RS as they have dropped almost back to list if you can purchase privately.

Thanks in advance

991.2 engine is very different internally than 991.1

i would not recommend 991.1 if you have a choice

I think you misinterpreted my question, i am not considering a 991.1 GT3. I am considering a 991.1 GT3 RS so my question was, did the 991.1 RS suffer from similar engine issues as the 991.1 GT3?
Maybe I did not word my question clearly, my apologies.

If there are issues with the .1 RS motor they are not nearly on the scale of the .1 GT3. That said, if you were worried enough about the .1 GT3 motor even after the work of the COG/Porsche to provide the exceptional warranty then you sound fairly risk averse. The safe play is probably a .2 GT3 but the RS is an RS and again no widespread issues that I know of. Personally I wouldn't hesitate on an RS over the motor concern. I just made the same decision and went GT3 because of the superior PCM, back-up camera and less crazy look (I want to drive it regularly).

I have both currently. Had a .2 RS for 2 days. Would choose .1RS unless you want the manual. It’s a better value.

I wouldn’t hesitate to get a .1 RS. Very few issues reported, and they have been pretty solid. But the .2 cars are better, just more expensive.
