I live down on the mid peninsula. I'm going out for a drive later this morning and will see if I can hear anything. Heading up to Alice's.

It sounds almost like a stone/pebble hitting the underbody. Or like two billiard ***** clacking together.
What time you gonna be at Alice's? I might head out for a drive as well.

I remember this sound! When I first got the car it sounded like a "clunk" coming from the rear. Almost like something heavy metal-on-metal was engaging. Freaked me out at first but was told it's normal. I don't think I've heard it for the last 200 or so miles so (800 miles on the car so far) it may be the brake scenario as discussed.

The billiards analogy is spot-on, just heavier and a bit slower.

Steelies, PDK, for what it's worth.

UPDATE
Ok so my car only does it once. On startup. After sitting for a bit of time. I tried to recreate it by backing up and then going forward again and it doesn't do it. It only does it after I've parked the car.

I went for a drive this weekend and realized mine does it almost anytime I'm going into gear from a stop. Not necessarily from reverse...but even if I'm stopped at a light, stop-sign, etc.

UPDATE:
Ok guys, I figured it out. It is 100% without a doubt... get ready... drum roll please....

The automatic door lock.
Hahaha!

When you start to move forward in first gear, the doors lock and that's the freakin' sound. I was driving around today and looked down and noticed the door lock button and thought to myself how I never actually use it. And so I hit the button to unlock the doors and it all made sense. And that's why you only hear it when you start the car and drive off...

Lightbulb You can program out the auto door lock

feature. Scroll through your settings menu.
