Default Thank God for Pobst

Article is a couple of months old—I just ran across it in the lounge at work. Thank God for Randy Pobst. He is refreshingly honest in his criticisms of both the ZR1 and the Porsche GT cars. Doesn’t seem beholden to the manufacturers. Between Pobst and Chris Harris and only a handful of other journalists, there are actually some useful, informative, critical reviews out there.

Interesting take, different from some others who prefer GT3RS. Randy is a real treasure to MotorTrend.

Randy is one of my favorite person to watch from a "technical" perspective. I have actually bought a few cars due to his very positive reviews.

Why does Randy think the GT2RS and .2 GT3RS behave so differently? I thought they have exactly same suspension set up. Aero balance? Do they have different spring rates? Different PASM/PTV/TC/ESC tuning?

He is pretty objective, but he was having a blast with the 2RS and also loved the overall balance on the TTS.......

Believe his references in that article to 3 RS were for older spec and/or on older tech tires. But no question Randy is living the dream...

I really like Randy Pobst reviews but find it strange you would put his name in the same sentence as Chris Harris.

I think Chris Harris and Henry Catchpole are the clowns of the reviewing world. Those last two seem more interested in their own celebrity than reviewing the capabilities of cars. They ran out of punch lines years ago and usually just whine about “ soul” or some such nonsnse. Randy seems down to earth, unemotional and concerned more about the cars than his own personnna. He’s one of a ha divulged of guys, I’ll actually pay attention to in a review.

I read in the article where he as talking about the tires and it sounds like the 2RS had Cup R tires. I think this might be the difference in the 2RS and 3RS as tested by Pobst

I especially like the part where you put strange and Chris Harris in the same sentence.

Article came out in Oct '18 and after .2 3RS had been out for a while, so above assertion is not necessarily to be taken for granted

He also said the Viper was perfected with the final year ACR, but the final two years were the same car. He reviews a lot of cars, so I'm sure it's easy to mix up models and production years.

He's a great writer. And a great driver. Also talks straight. Don't always agree with his opinions but that's ok. He can pick up on things that wouldn't be important to me could be it. Love him.

Catchpole is great too. A little bit the new Russell Bulgin? I still like Chris despite not wanting to.

I've been lucky enough over the years to have Randy drive all 3 of my Porsche track cars with me in the right hand seat, at Daytona, Mid Ohio and Sears Point. He is such a master driver, and so humble and generous. He helped me with suspension set up, and shared some cheat sheets that he uses. Years ago, I chased him, and had a blast. I had 100 hp more and it was my home track. I had ABS, and he had a passenger. It was all I could do to keep up.

I think Randy Pobst and Steve Sutcliffe are the best car reviewers. They both provide some excellent details on cars capabilities.
