New GT3RS owner and the history
Wanted to take a few minutes to tell my story. First, this forum is amazing a wealth of knowledge and experience. I spend way too much on this site according to my wife!
my fascination with Porsche began in 1983 when I was eight years old and my father bought a 944 brand new. He ordered it and I remember the day it came in. By the way it also had paint issues that had to be corrected Way back when LOL! I loved riding in that car. Can still remember the sounds and smells. 5 speed manual transmission. I wanted to ride in the car every single day.
Fast forward to college he allowed me to drive the car for two years. I babied it and washed it probably four times a week! I learned how to truly drive in that car.
Fast forward after college and med school.... I had a 997 turbo cab for a year, liked it but didn’t love it. Was fast but not the same as my childhood obsession. Moved on and really didn’t think I’d ever get back into Porsche as a brand.
Got married and my wife loves cars as well. She always wanted a Maserati gran turismo. Bought her one in red. Great sound but that was about it. I drive it 2 times in 2.5 years of ownership. Heavy, sloppy not inspiring. Sold it after it broke down twice in a week.
2 years ago or so I began looking back at porsche for a replacement. She loves red therefore found a 991.1 tts in GR. Went for a test drive. Wow insane speed. Insane acceleration but still seemed almost sterile. My attention turned to the GT family of cars. Looked around the internet and was connected with Ryan at DDW. Class act all around. Bought his personal gt3 in GR. My wife has it as a DD unless it’s raining outside. I was back to where I began with Porsche, raw, engaging wanting to be driven for fun not just fast and in a straight line. A wonderful car indeed!
this year got the itch to see if I could find an RS. Ryan once again came through and found me exactly what I was looking for in chalk. Now we have a stable of GT cars and hoping to expand in the future! The RS is quite spectacular, taking the car to another level. Even more raw, closest I have found to the old Porsche from my childhood. You can hear the noises, feel the road through the seat, at last I have found my car. We took the 2 cars out this weekend. My wife driving the gt3 with my daughter, me and my son in the RS. Had a blast! Who knew GT cars can be a family bonding experience! My 15 year old son said was the most fun thing he could imagine doing on a fall day. I realized at that moment I have passed on the Porsche experience to the next generation, I can only hope he can follow his path to find his car Nirvana in the future! Thank you for reading this post. These cars connect us together and I really appreciate that!
Lastly want to thank Ryan at DDW once again, he has made it all possible.
