Installed RS Wheels on my 991.2 GT3, also Porterfield R4-S Pads, Steering Wheel Trim

Well when I first asked the question if RS wheels fit on a GT3, I got a lot of flack for it and no real answers. I ended up calling Wheels Boutique to see what type of offsets and width they have run for customers cars to get a better answer. Long story short, they are many out there running much more aggressive setups, if anyone is wondering, they fit perfectly fine. No rubbing and they look amazing on the GT3. Front and rear wheels are 1/2 wider on the RS and Offsets are slightly different. This equates to the RS wheels being out 11mm further on the front and 1mm further inboard. On the rear they are out 5mm further, and 7mm further inboard over the standard GT3. The front wheels look so much better and sit much more flush than the factory GT3 wheels. I always felt the stock GT3 wheels looked buried in the front. If I didnt want to stagger the rear wheels, at the minimum I would highly recommend just using an RS wheel upfront. Makes the front wheels sit like the rear wheels do. Pretty much every car I have owned I have put 10mm spacers on to make the car sit better, including my R8 and BMW M2. The key is to keep rolling diameter the same. I am running 255/35/20 up front and 325/25/21 on the rear. Wheels are wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport 4s which is a much better tire for the street over the sport cup 2.

I ordered the car with standard silver wheels, those wheels will be used for the Track, so I am not worried about performance changes on the street since it will be so minor. Car doesnt feel any different with new wheels on, except tires have way more grip since its below 40 degrees in Michigan. I also changed out my factory pads for Porterfield R4-S pads. Only drove 50miles on the stock pads and I was amazed by how much they squeal and the crazy amount of brake dust! So far so good on the Porterfield Pads, initial bite feels good and no squealing at all. Will see how brake dust differs but so far I am very happy with them for a street pad. If I dont like the pads, best part is they were under $400 shipped. Plan is to get different pads for the track after I do a little more research.

Last thing is changed was the steering wheel trim in the spoke. I actually like the silver inserts from the GTS so I replaced them instead of the black. Feels a little more upscale to me while still feeling sporty. Completely subjective but I like it :) Relatively easy mod and was only $60. Thinking of possibly doing the carbon surround from the Weissach Package.

I like the Black inserts on the .2 but those Chrome ones also look good

They match the rest of the trim in the interior. Also we call them Platinum chrome in the industry, they aren't as blingy as pure chrome lol.

Good info on the RS wheels, thanks for sharing. Looks good too!

Do you have any pics or guidance as to changing the steering wheel inserts? It is part of my weekend project.

Wow, never thought of that. The RS wheels looks great! Certainly more rubber on the road and/or wider stance. Doesn't look awkward at all, quite subtle, actually. I wonder if there are any negative effects to handling? This may be a relatively cheap track performance mod if it doesn't upset vehicle chassis dynamics, and if a neutral effect it still looks cool!

Given all things equal there would be an increase in performance since you are giving the car a wider track and more contact patch of rubber . The issue is tire selection. The rear tire size is only available in the old Pirelli Pzeros and the Michelin 4s . Neither can compare on the track to a Cup 2 .

Fairly simple, disconnect the battery and put a small screw driving in the side of the steering wheel on each side to pop the air bag off. You should see the holes on the side of the wheel where to insert . Then you have to remove the wheel and should be self explanatory at that point.

Good info, thanks.

Do you have a photo from the rear, down low, so we can see how wide the rear tires look?

^+1 , ........... would love 325's for the rear on track , without going to 19's

OP thanks for charging ahead of the pack , very cool

This looks great. Do you have stock alignment?

Well Done!

This looks great. Glad someone finally tried this.

aaa335 12-20-2018 10:42 PM

looks great! did you adjust the ride height at all?

KBS911 12-20-2018 10:44 PM

Very good news! Never thought of this. I'm trading my 16 RS for a 19 GT3. I have a brand new set of OEM RS wheels with recently mounted Cup 2 N2 tires. Might just keep them if this pans out. 325's in the rear and wider track up front can't be a bad thing....can it? Would love to hear more about pluses and minuses of this configuration. Will this be beneficial on the track? Thanks for posting!!
