Default Why a 21" rear wheel on the RS

Does Porsche do this for performance, looks, or both?

I would assume for the larger contact patch.

But then they could have done chassis rake with 19" and 20" like the Senna, no?

I suspect someone in Stuttgart actually thinks 21"s look good. Maybe they wanted to ease the 992 21"s into the mainstream. "See, it's the same as the RS! It doesn't look like a gravedigger, it's badass!".

Edit: the LaFerrari doesn't have 21"s either.

The actual reason was that Michelin and Porsche co-developed the 918 Spyder tire (MPSC2) and the same tire was used for the .1 GT3 RS. In an interview around 3 years ago Andreas Preuninger mentioned the justification for the 21" rear tire.

I think the tire is oversized for the extra wide body 991, and this is supported by the TSB to make modifications to the rear wheel well components on cars that rub the stock tires on wires, brackets, etc.

I have measured this 325x21 tire against the 335 on my C7-Z06 and 345 Hoosiers, and the stock RS tires is the widest of them all.

....I would love to see a 918 Spyder equipped with the Cup-2R lapping Laguna Seca, VIR, Road America and putting a smack down on everything, including the GT2RS (and possibly the 488 Pista but that Ferrari is SuperFast...j/k)
