It’s going to be in the 30s...Dunlop Sport Max tires
Guys....So it’s going to be beautiful this weekend but it’s going to be in the mid 30s. Really want to take the RS outfor a drive but questioning whether I should with the sport Max tires. Any issues?

That isn’t cold enough to damage the tires, but be careful driving and expect low levels of grip. Check your pressure too - generally lose around 1 psi per 10F loss of ambient temp.

The tires will be fine, the compound just won't be as sticky as normal so you won't have as much grip unless you manage to find a way to get heat into the tires and keep it there...which is tough to do on the street. As Grant said check your tire pressures and be aware of the fact that if the car is kept in a heated garage you're going to lose tire temp and pressure when you get outside. You might consider running the pressures a pound or two low just to give them a little bit of extra flex and grip in the cold temps.

obviously not going fast enough to build up much heat, so be careful and just assume lack of grip at all times. a few years ago I almost lost my GT3 driving on a beautiful sunny day in winter because a newly paved round about had ZERO grip. yikes! pucker time

I generally draw the line at 40F but if it is dry and you don’t push it you should be fine. The Dunnies have better grip than the Cup 2s in this situation imo.

as long as you don't go nuts, you'll be fine

You can definitely still take it out, just don't go trying to break any records on your favorite roads and treat the first 10-15 mins with extra extra throttle care as they will be ice bricks until they hit about 50 degrees op temp where they are still just above the minimum haha. The RS has low torque down low so thats actually not as bad as when I took my 600lt out yesterday in 30-35 degrees...still made it out just fine

Keep in mind you can't see Black Ice as I would bet on it being freezing the night before. Bridges can be a real problem with ice formation obviously.
IMO, just get winter tires and be done with it or wait for a warmer day. Cost of damage or accident is WAY higher than a set of winters.
Early morning winter drives are the best - roads are empty and the engine loves cold weather. You will hate driving an SUV in winter after you take out a sports car with downforce on winter rubber.

I do not bother even driving her at 40 F and below. Just no fun

Been driving my car all week on sport cups and it has been low 30s. Just be careful and drive like there is ice everywhere and it will be fine. Im trying to rack up the miles so i can meet the break in for when spring comes around

I have had my RS out a bunch in the cold here in Chicago. only when the roads are perfectly dry though. you'll be fine, just remain vigilant (particularly around bends and coming to a full stop). on the highways you'll be just fine. I can't imagine putting my RS away for 5 months. I hope to be able to get a nice opening every 3 weeks in Chicago where the roads are perfectly dry and the temps aren't too cold. I also believe it's good for the car to do so (particularly with the ethanol that's in fuel these days - I would prefer not to have gas older than 30-45 days in my tank, even with Stabil or whatever else guys are using these days)

Boy - I hope we can get a few 40 degree plus days soon
