Being the lucky owner of both, these are two very different cars, both so special in their own way. The GT2 RS is an event and truly unique: I don’t know if saying it is a step forward from the GT3 RS is accurate but it looks, sounds, feels and drive that extra special. Interestingly also it has more mechanical noises than the 991.2 GT3 RS, similar to the noises one had in the 991.1 3 RS. This is another reason I am happy to have it and I have to say I am missing the noises in the Gen 2 3 RS. But where I feel so blessed to also have the gen 2 3 RS is that 9K revving n/a engine! And the car is so accurate, planted, easy to position with the smooth engine delivery and throttle control which, my average driving skills acknowledged (!) is not as achievable in the GT2 RS.
the GT3 RS is a perfect track car and I am happy Porsche made it a bit less everyday GT than the previous gen.
But what a unique car the GT2 RS is and what a smile it puts on my face each time I get close to her!

This was well said.

no, i quoted golden boy and it was directed at his post. But yes, I read the same as you. I like pictures too - but they need to be viewed in conjunction with the substantive text of the article. The cars are set up as Porsche intended. Lap times on equal rubber and conditions: GT3 slower than Gt3Rs slower than gt2rs.
Even tho I would prefer the gt3rs all day every day
To me thats as if not more impressive.

I'm glad porsche made a gt2 that gets such consistent praise. The 996-997 gt2's didn't invoke the kind of emotion that is communicated on the 991, other than some intense shove/acceleration. Outside of torque, the 3/3rs cousins bested the 996-997 2/2rs EVERYWHERE else. I think it is encouraging, as we move to the inevitable switch to an all-turbo lineup (EVENTUALLY it's coming), that Porsche is making a turbo product that rivals the emotion of their best NA stuff in categories outside of just pure acceleration. It's good news for all of us: Turbo fans, NA fans and the indifferent crowd.

If the next GT2RS uses a twin turbocharged version of the 9k rpm 4.0L in the GT3/RS (perhaps backing off that number a little) that would easily challenge McLaren’s motor. Not really sure why they didn’t do this with 991 version (probably budgetary concerns).
