Default Are there any exotics that handle better than a 991 GT car?

Went to Exotics Racing LA and drove these two 'entry level' supercars over the weekend. I had read mixed reviews of the experience, but thought that, while pricey, it was a great to drive these cars pretty hard on their 1.2 mile track. This was my first time in cars of this caliber. I emerged feeling that while the engine certainly felt more epic the chassis, balance and overall handling feel wasn't as good as my 991.1 GTS. I remember one of the lead instructors saying that his favorite car for the track was actually the Cayman. I am asking this here because I know a lot of you guys here have owned or own Ferraris, Lambos and McL. For weekend back roads, canyons and the occasional track experience do any of these cars actually handle better than a 991?? Are you really just paying for a better sounding more exotic engine?? Disclaimer-I drove the Ferrari and Lambo but not the 570 McLaren.

For weekend back roads the 458 was the greatest of them all for me.....you have seat time in the GTS so it's your comfort zone.....it takes time to build confidence in anything you drive.....tough to make a comparison in just a few miles of something different.....

The Performante is not too shabby . The handling is sublime. For canyons and track its amazing. 640 NA V10 motor with a great sound track. A big difference from a regular Huracan.

I had a regular Huracan and hate the way it drove. It was boring and not at all confidence inspiring. I tried a Performante, but I didn't get a chance to push it so I can't say for sure how it handles. It still felt like a bigger and heavier car than my Porsches, though. I prefer the way my Porsches drive to anything else I've tried.

458 and 488 have better handling than the 991 GT3 cars imo.

The GT3 is more planted and grippier, but the Ferrari have a lot more playfulness and excitement to the way they handle. It feels strange at first because the car slides so easily, but when you learn how easy it is to control it, then it becomes natural.

On the other hand, I feel when the GT3 starts sliding, it often means I made a mistake.

Huracan handling is still the most disappointing thing I’ve experienced. It can take corners fast but it just doesn’t feel right or natural.

"Better" is subjective, and very driver-dependent.

There are other cars that handle as competently as a GT car, some of which have been mentioned here already (e.g. Performante, 458S, 488, 650LT, etc.)

For "Turn In" Porsche really has nailed it,
Superior steering feel feedback as I know exactly where I am on the road to apex

PS - Quite frankly I believe the Cayman GT4 has better balance than a 991 car so technically "handles" better although we all know it isn't anywhere near the 9000 rpm engine
...but then again, you said "handle"

I think, personally, the 650LT is better.

I’ve not driven a 488. I look forward to it. I don’t have any desire for a Lamborghini.

Porsche is not exotic for sure, but just can’t be beat overall.

Lotus (not an exotic)

Handling is inversely related to weight in my limited experience.

I agree with this. Drove a friend's GT4 and agree it handled better than my 991. I guess the surprising thing for me was, especially given the price difference, these mid engine supercars did not feel like they handled better than a rear engine Porsche. Of the two, I definitely felt the 488 was better and, as someone posted earlier, much more lively than the Lambo. Also as some have written before, Lambo felt much more confining. I barely fit with a helmet on-not good for taller guys.

GT3 the best mix of performance and accessibility (seating position, visibility, durability). I don't find many (any) that perform any better in an absolute sense.

But variety is the spice of life. Don't tell my wife...

The handling of a car has both performance and enjoyment aspects, and varies as the car is pushed closer to its limits. On the road, you really shouldn’t be near the limits of these cars, so if you’re not going to track the car regularly, I suggest picking the one you subjectively enjoy most (which won’t necessarily be the one with the highest limit or best handling at the limit). You’ll find that, objectively speaking, a Porsche GT car, will be the best choice.
