It can be a cop trap....just chill on crazy speeds and don't cross the center line, but it's still worth every mile and all your time getting there. Half the fun is the journey, and yes there are tons of roads in and around that area that are awesome too. You gotta do the Dragon once, if just to say you did it.

I've been hearing (Doug DeMuro) that the Tail of teh Dragon" isn't worth it and is a cop trap - that there are better roads nearby, true?
I knew Doug (still do) years ago when we both lived in Atlanta; we were hanging out one night when we cooked up that first column he wrote about how the Dragon actually sucks.
It's an interesting road but it's almost always clogged with traffic / tourists / car clubs, etc.
I grew up fairly close by (just over an hour away) and I drive it once a year, tops.
The dragon on the weekends is not fun. During the week or at night and it'll change your life. We had an incredible day today. 5 cars, perfect weather. So much fun!!
