No where to the degree of a 991.2
It is a quantum leap in efficiency and reliability, of u get to the design engineering of the motor
991.2 basically has a cup car bottom end

That is what i am thinking, Grant, since that was the only real difference with those 2016 G engines. Of course, Porsche told us that those changes did not change the likelihood of a top-end failure on the .1s, so the benefit of a G engine is precarious at best imo. As you stated, the oiling method in all .1 GT3s are identical. That changed dramatically with the .2s.

Why even bother posting if you can't contribute and just complain about a new guy asking a question. Give him a break, he just joined and not everyone is a research master.
Thor, ask away with redundant questions!! There are plenty of cool dudes like Grant and Rob on Rennlist that will save you the headache of having to search through old forums!
Glad you found the answer to your question!

The car will be my retirement present after 35+ years of working so I'm in the process of learning about the different 911 models. Wanted a manual but after driving a PDK it really made me reconsider my choice. I have other toys with manual transmissions so PDK is fine; especially given the performance. My wife is telling me to get the model that really floats my boat since if there is no passion, I will end up selling it. I've driven a 991.1 Cabriolet, GT4, etc. and have not yet taken a GT3 for a ride yet but it's on the top of the to-do list.
For those who have a GT3 991.1 are there other considerations when looking at the 2014 - 2016 GT3s?
Will begin activity looking for the right car at the end of this coming summer if all goes according to plan. Any input would be very much appreciated.

I had the same concerns, but I’ve just bought a 2014 car on its 3rd engine. The first replacement was the early recall for bottom end failure and fire risk back in 2014, then it had a new late G spec engine in 2017. I figure that with 6 more years of factory engine warranty, plus 2 years’ extended warranty having bought it from an official UK Porsche centre, it’s probably as safe a buy as a 991.1 can be. I’m picking it up on Friday - can’t wait!

Good luck on your search.
I bought my first Porsche a couple weeks ago and know NOTHING about them. I spend a lot of time creeping on here trying to learn. I went with a used, 338 mile, ‘16 GT3 RS. Wanted a ‘19 GT3 RS but the $60-70k delta wasn’t worth that bit extra in performance to me. My car is basically new anyway.

I recently got a 2015 991.1 gt3. I have driven, albeit briefly, a 991.2. The newer car is smoother and has a bit more torque. On the street, there isn’t a huge difference. On the track, a bit more torque is useful. I can’t comment on the oiling, engine longevity, etc. I agree with others that the 991.1 is a bit more rough in terms of engine and transmission sounds. I got the 991.1 because I don’t track a lot and didn’t feel like the extras were worth the price. Also, coming from a ‘75 race car, anything is really smooth, so I don’t mind the 991.1 noises and roughness. I actually like them.
I am not sure if a backup camera comes with the 2016, but it is not on the 2015, though there are aftermarket options. Other than the engine issues, i don’t see any other major differences across years.
