Default AP: "GT3 4.0 engine better than CGT, best ever

...boy, sure knows how to fan the flames doesn't he?

""This engine for me, hands down, is maybe the best Porsche street engine ever made," said Preuninger.

Even counting the Carrera GT?

"That would be a close second" Preuninger says with a smile. "The immediacy of this engine is absolutely mind-boggling. From 2000 rpm all the way up to 9000 rpm, it's just a brute."

https://www.roadandtrack.com/new-car...as-preuninger/

EDIT: I didn't realize this was a year old article, had just appeared on my google feed.

Well hyperbole aside I do believe this 4.0 is one for the books, Porsche hit the bullseye.

The engine in the 918 (the internal combustion part) is no slouch either. A naturally aspirated dry sump 4.6 L (4,593 cc) V8 engine, developing peak 608 Hp at 8,700 rpm and 9,150 rpm redline. Also has 398 ft-lbs of torque.

Too bad they never made a lightweight 918 RS version with just that motor and RWD and Manual gearbox. Maybe someone like Ruf should put that motor in the back of a 911, since it passed cerification unlike their own V8. But it wouldn't be able to rely on the electric motors to stack the efficiency and emissions numbers. And the rules are stricter now than when 918 was introduced...

Pretty happy to have the 4.0 though

Yeah," flappy paddles are for grandmas ", " the pdk suits this engine better,it spins too fast for a manual "...here comes the manual! Finger followers,a motorcycle design is the best...here comes misfires, engine replacements and solid valve train.
Andy,the head of marketing.

Seriously speaking,he's an enthusiast, most of us really appreciate his team's work, but come on : the CGT engine is epic! Lay off the kool-aid Andy!

Andy's mixing the Kool-Aid, not drinking it. Regardless this 991.2 GT3 motor is better than the one on the R, per Andy. Now the whole R 'package' that could still be debated.

I agree. The 4.0 is a great engine! It spins so high, has pretty good torque and it should be pretty reliable with the solid valve train. However,IMO the CGT engine is a masterpiece...and it's the main reason that car is so desirable...oh the wail!

I don't like the CGT at all. Never driven one. Never will. But it's ugly. To me, the 918 is the best looking Porsche. If its ICE V8 puts out 600hp and revs over 9K, why the hell didn't they put that thing in a GT car? But hey, a flat 6 with the same torque and 100hp less ain't bad either I guess

I have no idea how anybody cannot like the CGT. Its epic in every single way. Yes, the 4.0 engine is mind boggling. I've had a lot of seat time in a well run-in RS 4.0. There is no other car that offers the same experience.

Some times I wish he would just let the products speak for themselves before we all get deaf to his absurdities.

The 4.0 engine is really good, but the CGT engine is the greatest, possibly of all time, and for any car brand.

That V10 is pretty awesome, but I'm still partial to a Ferrari V12 if we're talking about large displacement NA motors. The one in the Superfast 812 (and the SP1 and SP2) is pretty great for a modern one and I like the old ones too (still remember my first time driving a 71 Daytona like it was yesterday).

The V12 is awesome too, Grant. No doubt. But that sound of the CGT! My god. The Daytona is only $2M. What are you waiting for?! lol
